Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Champai Soren on May 18 expressed his gratitude to the Union Government for taking a decisive step towards identifying and deporting illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators from the country.

The former CM also urged the incumbent state government led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren to form a Special Task Force (STF) to identify and deport Bangladeshi infiltrators from the state.

“I thank the Union Government for taking a decisive step in the fight against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the country. Now, I urge the state government to form a task force to identify and deport Bangladeshi infiltrators from Jharkhand,” said Champai while interacting with the media personnel on Sunday.

The tribal leader from Kolhan further claimed that the demography of the state is witnessing a rapid change due to Bangladeshi infiltration which poses an existential threat to the tribal communities.

He noted that the tribal dominated areas of the state such as the Santhal and the Kolhan is witnessing a change in demography. Champai also raised the issue of religious conversion in these regions, alleging the ruling coalition to remain silent on it.

“I have consistently raised my voice against this issue and religious conversion, but the ruling alliance led by JMM remains silent on these serious matters” he said.

The former CM further slammed the state government over the issue of women safety. While citing a recent incident from Bokaro, Champai accuses the state government of supporting wrongdoers.

While raising the issue of de-listing of those who have converted to any other religions, Champai noted that such individuals from the tribal community should be excluded from reservation benefits, reserved exclusively for Scheduled Tribes (ST).

MHA issued directives to identify, deport illegal Bangladeshi, Rohingya infiltrators

Earlier reports emerged about Union Ministry of Home Affairs issuing directives to states to locate and deport illegal Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas living illegally in Bharat.

The Ministry in its directives has  formulated a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to locate and deport such individuals. The said SOP has already been shared with the states reportedly.

In the directive issued, the MHA has instructed the states to collect biometric data of any such identified illegal infiltrator to prevent any future attempts to enter Bharat or prepare fraudulent documents.

The MHA has further instructed the states to form a district wise STF to identify and deport such individuals, along submitting a monthly action taken report. According to the directives, the identified illegal infiltrators will be kept at a holding centre at districts till their deportation.

In case of any suspected individual claiming to be a citizen of Bharat residing in any other state currently, then a report should be sent to the Home Secretary of the concerned state to verify the claims. Identification of such suspected individuals will be carried out at the district commissioner (DC) level within 30 days.
