A student from Veda Degree College in Hyderabad has been booked for allegedly sharing a provocative Instagram post related to “Operation Sindoor,” which included inflammatory remarks supporting Pakistan. The post, deemed inappropriate and provocative, was reported by college staff and students. Following a complaint by the college principal, an FIR was filed.
The student faces legal action for posting content that could disturb public peace. The case is under investigation and has been registered under Sections 196 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the complaint received on May 8, the Principal of Veda Degree College, Champapet, stated that student Shahzeen had “posted highly inappropriate and hateful content on social media platforms, particularly targeting Operation Sindoor.”
The Instagram story in question contained statements such as:
“Everything is done and blaming innocent people, Shame on U (on Indian flag) bottom. May Allah protect our brothers and sisters of Pakistan.”
In addition to this, Shahzeen is also alleged to have shared messages on WhatsApp that criticised India and “expressed views that support Pakistan while spreading hate against India.” Most notably, she reportedly stated:
“Hyderabad is a Muslim country, why are you living here?”
Such remarks, the complainant said, are “provocative and are capable of inciting communal tension and disturbing public peace.” The college has also submitted witness statements from other staff and students supporting the complaint.
As a disciplinary action by the educational institution, she was suspended from the college. The order read:
“You are hereby suspended from Veda Degree College during Vth Semester effective May 8. The decision follows a thorough investigation into your social media post, which has been deemed detrimental to national interests/social harmony/public order.”
A disciplinary committee will review the case, and further action will be determined based on their findings, said the college in a statement, which also confirmed she had been barred from accessing the college premises.
