A shocking and violent incident unfolded in Darbhanga, Bihar, on May 6, when a group of Muslims reportedly attacked a group of Hindus after verifying their religion. The incident took place in the evening near the Jale Police Station and has raised serious concerns about religious intolerance and communal violence. A total of 11 Hindus were seriously injured in the attack, which involved sticks and sharp weapons. An FIR has been filed at the Jale Police Station, and four individuals have already been arrested in connection with the attack.
Details of the Incident
The chain of events that led to the violent altercation began earlier in the day with a minor traffic incident. Hrithik Yadav, a local Hindu resident, collided with the bike of Noor Alam, a Muslim man. The two parties had a brief confrontation following the collision. According to reports, Noor Alam fled the scene shortly after the incident, leaving Hrithik to deal with the damage. Hrithik, seeking compensation for the damage to his bike, took Alam’s bike with him.
While the situation seemed to have calmed down, an agreement was reached between the families of both parties to return the bike the next day. However, tensions escalated when, later in the evening, a group of Muslims gathered on a local road in the vicinity. According to eyewitness accounts, the group began stopping passersby, asking them about their religion, and specifically targeting Hindus. Those who identified as Hindus were then attacked with sticks and sharp weapons. The assault was unprovoked, and the violence escalated quickly.
The Attack and Aftermath
The group of attackers inflicted serious injuries on 11 Hindu individuals who were passing through the area. The victims, most of whom were from the local community, were struck with sticks and sharp-edged weapons. Among the injured were Rajkishore Yadav, Ramsagar Yadav, Amit Kumar, Sumit Kumar, Ranjit Kumar, Hrithik Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, Lakshman Yadav, Sonu Kumar, and Dinesh Manjhi.
Three of the injured individuals—Ramsagar Yadav, Hrithik Yadav, and Sumit Kumar—were critically injured and were referred to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries has raised concerns about the escalating violence in the region. Local residents have expressed outrage over the targeting of individuals based on their religion.
FIR and Arrests
Following the attack, an FIR was lodged at the Jale Police Station on the complaint of the injured victims. The police have named 21 individuals in the FIR, including prominent figures from the Muslim community in the area. Some of the accused named in the FIR include Mohd Irfan Qureshi, Mohd Ibran Qureshi, Mohd Salman, Qurban Qureshi, Mohd Pappu Qureshi, Aman alias Arman Qureshi, Rizwan Darji, and several others.
The police have so far arrested four individuals in connection with the attack. However, the remaining accused are still at large, and police have launched a manhunt to apprehend them. Local police officials have assured that they are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

This attack has reignited tensions in the local community, with concerns over the increasing instances of religiously motivated violence. The targeting of individuals based on their religion has not only caused fear and insecurity among the local Hindu population but has also fueled further communal discord in the region. The incident has prompted calls for stronger measures to curb religiously motivated violence and ensure that such incidents do not go unpunished.
Politicians and community leaders from various parties have condemned the attack, with many demanding swift action against the perpetrators. The Bihar state government has been urged to take a firm stance on communal violence and ensure that those responsible for the attack are held accountable.
The Road Ahead
As the investigation continues, the victims of the attack await justice and seek medical treatment for their injuries. The local community, too, is looking to the authorities to take strong action and prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
The Darbhanga attack serves as a stark reminder of the deepening communal divides in certain parts of India and highlights the urgent need for greater efforts to combat religious intolerance and violence.
