Roorkee/Dehradun: Continuing its statewide crackdown on unlawfully operating religious schools, the Uttarakhand Government has taken action against five more illegal madrasas. The latest operation, conducted in the Bhagwanpur and Manglaur areas of Haridwar district, resulted in the sealing of these institutions that were found to be operating without proper authorization and failing to meet prescribed standards.

Acting on the directives of SDM Bhagwanpur Ajay Veer Singh, a team of local administration officials, accompanied by police personnel, sealed a madrasa located in Rola Hedi village under the Bhagwanpur police station jurisdiction. This particular madrasa was found to be flouting the required norms and had not undergone the mandatory registration process. The presence of a police force ensured the smooth execution of the sealing operation.

In a parallel action, authorities in the Manglaur region sealed three additional illegal madrasas, while one more such institution was sealed in the Jhabreda area. These actions are part of a sustained campaign across Uttarakhand to identify and shut down madrasas operating outside the legal framework.

It is noteworthy that the Bhagwanpur region has been a focal point of this crackdown, with several other illegal madrasas in the area having been sealed in previous drives. The ongoing campaign underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring that all educational institutions adhere to established regulations and standards.

According to official sources, the total number of illegal madrasas sealed across Uttarakhand has now reached 201. This significant figure highlights the scale of unauthorised operation of these institutions in the state and the extent of the administrative response.

The reasons cited for the closure of these madrasas include the failure to meet prescribed operational standards and the absence of proper registration with the relevant authorities. Registration is a crucial requirement for any educational institution, as it ensures compliance with regulations related to infrastructure, safety, curriculum, and teacher qualifications. Operating without registration raises concerns about the quality of education being imparted and the safety and well-being of the students.

The involvement of police personnel during these sealing operations underscores the seriousness of the matter and the potential for resistance or law and order issues. The administrative teams are being provided with adequate security to carry out their duties effectively and ensure compliance with the law.
