A shocking case of fake love trap, often referred to as love jihad has come to light from Chhatarpur wherein a Hindu woman claims she was trapped by Islamist for mere exploitation. Following the shocking case of “love jihad” in Bhopal private college resembling the famous Ajmer 92 case, another case emerged from Chhatarpur. A woman from has accused a Muslim man of tricking her into marriage by hiding his religious identity. As per the complaint, the man posed as a Hindu, married her in a temple, and later forced her to enter into an Islamic marriage. The woman also complained that she was subjected to domestic violence, made to eat meat against her will, and looted of valuables.

The Chhatarpur police have filed a case and ordered an investigation into the case.

The case emerged in the Matguwan police station region of Chhatarpur district, where the victim, a 28-year-old woman from Jabalpur, went to the police after allegedly having escaped captivity. She alleged that the accused, who had presented himself as “Sameer Tiwari” initially, was actually a Muslim man named Sameer Khan.

She was already married to her first husband in September 2023, as per her complaint. She met Sameer, who was presented as a Hindu, on December 13, 2023, at her younger brother’s wedding in Matguwan. Sameer reportedly made her divorce her husband and ultimately got her married as per Hindu rituals at Jatashankar Dham in August 2024.

The woman later found that Sameer was a Muslim and had concealed his identity.

Confronted with this, Sameer allegedly promised to honor her religion and stop eating meat. On the strength of these guarantees, she accepted to remain with him and got married in a nikah (Islamic wedding) on December 13, 2024.

Allegations of Abuse and Coercion

The woman had been married since 2015 to a contractor from the Kuluwa village of Damoh district. They had two children—a seven-year-old son and five-year-old daughter. For a livelihood, she was employed at a property dealer’s office in Jabalpur. Subsequently, her mother and other family members shifted to Matguwan in Chhatarpur.

While she was there, she emotionally attached herself to Sameer, who reportedly manipulated her into dissolving her earlier marriage. Their relationship progressed, and they had a temple marriage performed under Hindu rituals.

But after marriage, she found that Sameer had misrepresented his religious background and identity.

The woman had alleged that shortly after their nikah, Sameer started harassing and physically tormenting her. She said he and his family members incessantly mistreated her. He is said to have demanded Rs 3 lakh in cash and her gold ornaments. She also accused him of making her eat meat and preventing her from performing Hindu religious practices.

Additionally, Sameer is accused of forcing her to buy luxury products like a motorcycle, TV, cooler, and iPhone.

On April 26, the woman was purportedly locked in a room by Sameer. She escaped the next morning and travelled on foot barefoot for 14 kilometers from Matguwan to the town of Chhatarpur. Upset and in tears, she was sitting at the Chhatrasal crossing by locals who were passing the place when they got to know about her condition. They called the emergency police helpline (Dial 100), and she was brought to the City Kotwali police station.

Police Action

Kotwali Police Station in-charge, Arvind Dangi, asserted that a formal complaint has been registered and an investigation is in progress. “The complainant says that the accused told her that he would kill her and stated that he wants to get married again. We are taking the issue seriously and appropriate action is being taken,” he added.

ASP Vidita Dangar speaking with Organiser said, “An FIR in this matter has been registered on May 1, the woman claims she was pressured to be converted. The accused man Sameer has been booked under BNS sections alongwith sextons of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act. Furthermore, investigations are underway.”

As per the latest informations, the accused has been arrested by the police.

Notably, the woman claims she has been threatened to be chopped if dared to take any action. Sameer abused her saying, she being a Hindu was a mere “Keep” for her and that her work is now done; he does not need her anymore.

Sameer’s mother and sister had attempted to attack the victim with knifes multiple times promoting her to leave his place, it was only after Sameer had apologised she returned but to no avail, as the situation remained the same.

The woman now demands justice saying, “I have always been worshipper of Laddoo Gopal, he forced me to stop worshiping him, he made me leave him..how am I supposed to live now.”
