Bijapur: Amidst the ongoing massive operation against the Maoists near the inter-state borders of Telangana and Chhattisgarh, as many as 24 Maoists surrendered before the officials on April 28, said Bijapur police.
Those who surrendered before the police were carrying a collective reward of Rs 28.50 lakhs.
“Today, 14 Naxalites (Maoists) with a total reward of Rs 28.50 lakh surrendered, and a total of 24 Naxalites surrendered in Bijapur,” Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Governa said.
The surrendered Maoists were provided with an immediate financial assistance of Rs 50000 each as provisioned in the new surrender cum victim rehabilitation policy introduced recently by the state government.

With the addition on Monday, the tally of Maoist cadres surrendering before the Bijapur police has surpassed the figure of 200 since January alone, denoting the growing disappointment among the cadres of the banned group.
Additionally, over 200 cadres of the group have also been nabbed by the police and the security forces during separate operations launched in the district in the contemporary period. This comes amidst security forces neutralising around 90 cadres of the outlawed group in insurgency-hit Bijapur since January this year.

The fresh lot of surrender by Maoist cadres has arrived amidst the ongoing mega operation launched by the security forces along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border.
The operation launched on the basis of crucial intelligence is said to be carried out in an 800sq km area near Kargetta hills. Report suggest over 20k personnel are involved in the campaign launched with an aim to clean up the area from Maoist’s clutches.
Separate units of security forces including DRG, STF and others are said to be involved in the ongoing operation that was launched on April 21. It is being speculated that many of the top leaders of the outlawed group including top commanders like Madavi Hidma, Deva Barse and others from Dandkaranya Special Zonal Committee are hiding in the aforementioned location.
It is worth mentioning here that over 350 Maoist cadres have been gunned down in separate operations launched in the violence-ridden state since December 2023.
The continuous operations by the forces in Bastar and adjoining regions affected by the Maoist insurgency in recent years has also led to surrender of over 2300 cadres of the proscribed group, marking a significant turnaround in the in the hinterlands once dominated effectively by the reds. Notably the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced to wipe out the red terror from the country before March next year.
