Tamil Nadu: VCK, NTK, and tukde-tukde fringe elements attempt to whitewash Pahalgam terrorist attack

The self-styled political activists push narratives such as diverting from real issues, violations of Geneva norms, and Adani’s business interests, while whitewashing the religious angle in terror attack

While the rest of the nation has spoken in unanimous condemnation of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, J&K, which claimed the lives of 25 Hindu tourists, meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, parties like VCK, NTK, and tukde-tukde fringe elements are blaming PM Modi to tone down the seriousness or divert from the real threat. They claimed, “they are not terrorists but Jihadis fighting for their rights.” The TN police, for its part, did not allow protests and cleared the walls by peeling off the posters condemning the attack in many parts of the state.

Tamil Nadu always stands alone when it comes to national security. The Dravidian parties, Left, and fringe anti-national outfits always take a different stand. They protested against Israel’s attack on Hamas and blamed India for siding with the Jewish nation. If our security forces kill or eliminate Naxals, they raise the bogey of human rights but are not bothered when civilians are killed by them.

In the present situation, there have been voices that support the terrorists in an indirect way. On Bharat’s decision to deny waters to Pakistan, NTK functionary Idumbavanam Karthik, whose residence and office were previously raided by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with an LTTE-linked arms case, took to his official X account to criticise India’s decision.

NTK founder Seeman said, “it is not right to blame a particular religion. Without preventing the attacks it is unfair to blame a particular community is nothing but an escapism. Tell me which religion does not have terrorists?”

Quoting the Geneva Convention of 1949, he said, “Blocking the flow of water, even if it is a warring enemy country, is a war crime that starves the people of that country!”

A self-styled environmentalist and Hindu-phobic Piyush Manush, in a video, said, “To who are you showing off? Listen carefully—Modi has compromised India’s security. Let me tell you how. There’s a place called Khavda in the Rann of Kutch, just 1 km from the India-Pakistan border. A massive 445 sq. km of land four times the size of Paris. A 445 sq. km 40km x 100 like this, did you get it? Sorry it’s 10×40 km—total’s 440 sq.km. 440 sq.km of land has been handed over to Adani, where? Just 1 km from the border! to install solar panels. Now, do you think he’ll go to war? They’re bragging about reclaiming PoK. Yogi Adityanath, Amit Shah—will make it. Is there a chance? Can you do? Will Adani even let you? Won’t he crush you under? What kind of scam is this! Cheating the nation.”

Condemning his speech, Lt Col N Thiagarajan (Veteran), in a post, said, “Pls arrest @piyushmanush for spreading false propaganda linking PM to Pahalgam terror attack. This violates IPC sec 123A, 505 & IT Act sec 66D & 69A for threatens national security.”

@NIA_India Pls arrest @piyushmanush for spreading false propaganda linking PM to Pahalgam terror attack. This violates IPC sec 123A, 505 & IT Act sec 66D & 69A for threatens national security.

We trust that the #NIA will act swiftly.

In another post, he said, “The media, including the sheep in Tamilnadu, have been told to run hashtags on Islamic Terror, it appears. Hindus can go on tour and be killed by random terrorists in Kashmir, but neither the incompetent LG nor the saffronised Union Home Ministry, will do much because these killings will be used for propaganda against Muslims in India – regardless of the fact that @PMOIndia is closest to UAE and tries to cozy up to MBS!”

The Hindu’s Frontline Editor, RK Radhakrishnan, in a series of social media posts, said, “I’m not ‘shocked;’ I’m fed up of being told lies and propaganda of ‘normalcy’ in Kashmir PahalgamTerroristAttack.”

Senthil Vel, who runs the Tamil Kelvi YouTube channel, a self-proclaimed journalist and former anchor, questioned why those calling the Pahalgam terrorists “Muslims” don’t also label espionage suspects arrested in India as “Hindus….. Today, I’m going to reveal the supposed connections between terrorists and BJP executives—with proof. So, these so-called ‘fake patriots’ run away. 25 citizens have been sacrificed due to terrorism. We’ve all spoken out in anger against terrorism, and I too condemn the Pahalgam terror attack. But let me be clear—the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Defence Minister are directly responsible. They must resign. I’m accusing them that they are weak and going to criticize them even more. I’m not here to bluff anything. I’m going to show the links between terrorists and BJP members, explain in detail who were all arrested. Enough of sacrificing innocent lives for dirty politics. And now, certain groups are shamelessly pushing anti-Muslim hashtags online. What injustice!”

Madan Gowri, the Indian YouTuber who travelled to Pakistan and return ballyhooing propaganda about how “safe” Hindus are there, in his Pahalgam video titled “PAHALGAM Issue EXPLAINED | Tamil | MG Squad”, delivers a lecture on “unity” and “not dividing people”. Even after such attack that explicitly targeted people based on their faith. He never used the word “terrorists”.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan, in a two-page statement, condemned the BJP-led government accusing failure of security, criticising the 2019 revocation of Kashmir’s special status and the subsequent reduction of 180,000 troops during the COVID period, which he claims contributed to the security lapse.

Hindu-phobic MLA Aloor Shanavas said, “Today, Kashmir is burning. You ask any leader their opinion about Kashmir. They will say Kashmir belongs to India, it is an integral part of India, and the ones who fight there are terrorists. People have the same opinion as the press spreads such a narrative, and the leaders in our country also say the same thing. But our leader Thirumavalavan, who has visited Kashmir and seen the situation, is the only brave Tamil leader who says the truth that what is happening there isn’t terrorism but a freedom struggle. Does any other leader say this truth?”

After the death of S.A. Basha, founder of the banned terror outfit Al-Ummah and the chief conspirator behind the 1998 Coimbatore bomb blasts that killed 58 and injured over 230 people, Thirumavalavan took to social media to pay tribute, glorifying Basha as a martyr for the Muslim community. He wrote that Basha, who had spent over 25 years in prison, remained steadfast in his beliefs and that his death was a significant loss for Muslims. He further stated that party leaders, including Deputy General Secretary Vanni Arasu, attended Basha’s funeral to offer their respects, calling it a “heroic tribute.” VCK took out protests against Israel and supported Hamas.

In a now-deleted post that sparked outrage, Dravidar Kazhagam activist and self-proclaimed Periyarist, Sundaravalli, mooted a wild conspiracy theory suggesting that the recent terror attack in Pahalgam was orchestrated not by Islamist terrorists, but allegedly by the Indian Army in collusion with the BJP. She said in a statement, “Those who came as tourists and took off their clothes to see if they were Muslims were in military uniforms. This further confirms suspicions about the BJP. Since a non-BJP opposition party is in power there, we also need to see if the BJP is conspiring with the army.”

Tamil Nadu BJP has decided to take appropriate legal action against Sundaravalli.  These are only a few of the rants that the Dravidian Model government-run Tamil Nadu has been facing in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack. The Centre, through the NIA, should act on them sternly.
