Yet another case of love jihad has surfaced, this time from Bihar’s Lakhisarai district. A Hindu woman has accused a man named Kamal Ashraf of posing as Sumit to deceive her, sexually exploit her, promised to marry her in court, and pressure her for religious conversion. According to the woman, Ashraf admitted that Muslim men exploit Hindu women for conversion and sexual purposes.
The complainant, a Hindu woman employed as a Block Project Manager (BPM) in the local education department, has accused her partner, Kamal Ashraf, a clerk in the same department, of forcing her to eat beef, perform namaz, and convert to Islam. She alleges that Ashraf initiated sexual relations with her in 2012, when she was a minor, by pretending to be a Hindu man named Sumit. She claims he has been sexually exploiting her for 13 years, and they have a son.
A First Information Report (FIR Number: 94/2025) was registered at Suryagarha Police Station on April 12, 2025. The woman alleges she approached the police on April 8 to file a case against Ashraf but was asked to return the next day. On April 9, she was questioned for hours, and the FIR was finally registered on April 12.
In her complaint, Archana Kumari, daughter of Rajen Kumar Singh, from village Aninagar, Bana Suryagarha, Lakhisarai district, detailed her ordeal, “On July 5, 2012, at 11:00 AM, he introduced himself as Sumit Kumar from village Kaidi, Pana Ooty, Rajasthan, and lured me into a romantic relationship with promises of marriage. At that time, I was approximately 16 years old.”
She alleged that the man, known to her as Kamal, a clerk, took her to Jamui and later Asansol. Her father filed a case (Suryagarha Police Station Case No. 133/12). Two years later, under pressure from Kamal, alias Sumit, she was coerced into a court marriage without verification and barred from contacting her family.

She claimed Kamal, whose real identity is Kamal Ashraf, son of Ghulam Subhani, from village Haldi, Bhana Suryagarha, Lakhisarai, and a Muslim, physically abused her and fathered her child. When she pressed for marriage, he demanded she convert to Islam, stating, “marriage was impossible without conversion.”
He told her that marriage was impossible without conversion and that his ‘hobby’ was to lure Hindu girls into relationships, exploit them sexually, and never marry them. To enforce conversion, he beat her, isolated her from her parents, and tortured her.
Despite this, she completed her studies and joined the education department as a Block Project Manager.
Ashraf allegedly forced her to sign three blank cheques, one used to withdraw Rs. 49,000 in the name of Ankit Kumar. When she resisted his demands, he stripped her, beat her, and said, “society would not accept me.”
On September 12, 2024, when she expressed a desire to visit her family and worship at a temple, he assaulted her, pressured her to perform namaz, and, upon her refusal, attacked her, fracturing her left hand and leg. Dr. Pankaj Kumar treated her in Lakhisarai. He destroyed her puja items, pressured her to eat beef, and coerced her and her son to adopt Islam, beating the child when he refused.
For nearly 13 years, Ashraf physically exploited and isolated her. On February 20, 2025, Ashraf, along with Ibrahim Ahmed, alias Shamshad Alam, and two others, visited her residence. Ashraf pressured her to have physical relations with Ibrahim. When she refused, they attempted to strangle her and harm her private parts.
On February 22, 2025, they beat her, stole her gold chain, gold earrings, and a ring, and pressured her to convert to Islam, saying they would accept her as a “bride” if she complied and engaged in physical relations with them.
After escaping with a relative’s help, she approached the women’s police station, but no action was taken. She fears the accused may harm her or force her into prostitution. Ibrahim Ahmed is a clerk at Ashraf’s establishment and a teacher at Primary School Mastav Balgudar.
The woman has requested legal action and protection from the accused.
According to SP Lakhisarai Ajay Kumar, the victim and the accused had a love marriage. A case has been registered, and the police are investigating the allegations, including claims of forced religious conversion.
The accused has been booked under sections 318(4), 352, 53, 64(2)(j), 81, and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Reports indicate that in 2014, the woman became pregnant and requested Ashraf to terminate the pregnancy, but he refused. By then, she had reached the age of majority. The matter reached court, where Ashraf promised to marry her. In 2015, after giving birth, she insisted on marriage, but Ashraf demanded she convert to Islam, eat beef, and perform namaz. When she refused, Ashraf allegedly assaulted her and their child in September 2024 for not performing namaz, causing fractures in her left hand and leg. He also circulated her private pictures when she resisted his demands.
It is further alleged that Ashraf prevented her from practicing Hindu rituals and claimed Hindu women are objects of enjoyment, requiring conversion to Islam to marry a Muslim man. On February 20, 2025, Ashraf allegedly brought three men and pressured her to engage in sexual relations with them as a condition for marriage.
