Raipur: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit the state of Chhattisgarh on a two-day tour from April 4. The Home Minister visit will be focused on the evaluation of the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign against the Maoists.

Shah will chair a high-level meeting to review the ongoing operations in Chhattisgarh as part of the government’s effort to eradicate Maoist-insurgency from the state before March 2026.

The Union Home Minister during his two-day trip will also visit Dantewada district, where he will participate in the closing ceremony of the ‘Bastar Pandum’, a cultural fest organised by the state government, showcasing state’s unique and rich cultural heritage. He will also interact with the security personnel involved actively in the ongoing counter-insurgency operation.

The visit of the Home Minister is considered crucial given the security forces have already intensified its operations in the Maoist’s stronghold lately, pushing the extremist on the back foot.

The security forces in separate operations in the state have neutralised over 130 Maoist cadres since January this year alone. This comes amidst surrender of around 160 Maoists including a few notable names in the same period.

Further the forces have also nabbed over 100 members of the banned group in separate search operations carried out in the state in the contemporary period.

The continuous operations in Maoist’s stronghold are believed to have pushed the Maoist’s leadership to approach the government for peace talks.

In a purported letter issued by the Maoist’s Central Committee on Wednesday, the ultras have reportedly approached the state government for peace negotiations with riders.

The state government on the other hand on Thursday however clarified, that while the state government is ready to engage with anyone who believes in the democratic setup, any pre-conditions for the alleged peace talks will not be entertained.
