A major scam involving the illegal modification and issuance of fake Aadhaar cards has been uncovered in Moradabad’s Bilari area, leading to the arrest of Wajid Malik, a Samajwadi Party (SP) worker. Malik is accused of making fraudulent changes to thousands of Aadhaar cards, including altering addresses and other personal details, in the aftermath of the Sambhal violence.

The incident came to light after local resident Vijay Kumar filed a complaint with the police regarding the scam. Kumar, who had visited Malik’s Aadhar centre, claimed that he demanded Rs 3,000 to make corrections to his Aadhar card. A video of a heated altercation between the victims and individuals involved in the fraudulent activities went viral on social media.

The police raided a shop located near Bilari Kotwali police station, which was operating as a fake Aadhaar centre. Authorities found stacks of documents, receipts, printed cards, and various equipment used for making these fraudulent Aadhaar cards. The investigation revealed that Wajid Malik had been involved in modifying details on hundreds of Aadhaar cards, including addresses and other identifiers, following the Sambhal violence that occurred earlier. This illegal centre, which was not registered with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), operates without proper authorisation.

Police Investigation and Allegations

The police have initiated a thorough investigation to determine the full extent of the scam. Authorities are trying to identify how many individuals received altered Aadhaar cards and whether any of them were linked to the Sambhal violence. Preliminary reports suggest that the illegal centre may have played a significant role in providing fake IDs to people involved in the violence, possibly facilitating the illegal movement of individuals across state lines.

Wajid Malik’s alleged connection with SP leaders has also come under scrutiny. Police are looking into whether the accused was using his political affiliations to further his illegal activities. Malik’s arrest has raised questions about the role of political figures in facilitating such fraudulent operations, with the public demanding accountability.

The Moradabad police are continuing their efforts to uncover the full scale of the scam. Investigations are underway to determine how many fake Aadhaar cards were issued and to identify the individuals who may have been involved. Authorities are also looking into the possibility that many of the fraudulent cards were issued to illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, which could have far-reaching security implications for the region.
