Giridih: Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raghubar Das on Sunday slammed the state government and administration alleging harassment of the people from the Hindu side aftermath of the rioting incident on the occasion of Holi.

The former CM after interacting with the victims on Sunday alleged that “Hindus are being harassed in their own country for celebrating their festivals.”

“Today I met the victims of stone pelting and arson on the Holi procession at Ghorathamba in Giridih…what the victim have told is a heart-wrenching incident and unfortunate. Today in our own country, Hindus are being harassed for celebrating their festivals,” said the BJP leader on X.

He added that “the result of appeasement and vote bank politics is that the morale of people with Jihadi mentality has increased. It is unfortunate that the government and administration are also harassing innocent people from the Hindu side. We will not tolerate this.”

He further emphasised that the Hindu community alone has not taken the contract of social harmony, questioning that will the Hindu community now have to take permission from other communities to take out procession on their festivals? The road is not anyone’s property. There is no violence during festivals of the other communities, but violence takes place every time during Hindu festivals, he said.

Das also dialed the senior officials of the administration and police, seeking a judicial inquiry into the matter. He also appealed the officials to set free the innocent and warned that the BJP will not sit quietly onto the matter.

“The government and administration should stop playing balancing act for vote bank. The innocent Hindus should be released immediately…Otherwise the BJP workers will come out on the streets with the Hindu community,” added Das.

Notably, several other senior leader of the opposition BJP have also trained guns on the administration and the state government alleging selective action into the matter to show a balanced side and protecting the rioters.

Questioning the FIR registered in the case, BJP state president Babu Lal Marandi on Sunday alleged that the ‘complaint lodged in the case seems to be influenced by appeasement’.

“The way the incident has been described in the FIR it seems as if Hindus have committed a crime by celebrating Holi under the rule of Congress-JMM. If Hindus celebrate their festival, they will be attacked with bottle bombs and stones, and then a case will be register against them calling them guilty of the incident,” said the BJP leader.

Communal tension flared up in Ghorathamba of Giridih after a Holi procession was attacked upon entering a lane near a mosque on March 14. According to the details, the officials on duty attempted to stop the procession from entering into the said lane, however the participants insisted on taking the usual route.

The procession was subsequently attacked with stones, glass bottles and petrol bombs, leading to arson and significant damage of property. The police aftermath of the violence has launched an investigation by filing a case against a number of individuals from both the sides
