Patna: Bihar Chief Minister (CM) Nitish Kumar on March 9 distributed appointment letters to over 10000 newly appointed teachers in a program held in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.

The program was organised as part of handing over appointment letters to a total of 51389 newly appointed teachers recruited under phase three of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) teachers recruitment drive.

With the appointment letters handed over to the candidates on Sunday, the total number of teachers recruited under three phases has reached over 2.68 lakh, taking the total strength of the teachers to around 6 lakh.

Sharing the news, CM Nitish Kumar in a post on social media platform X said “Today I attended the program of distribution of appointment letters to 51389 teachers selected by BPSC at Gandhi Maidan. So far 2, 66,558 new teachers selected by BPSC have been reinstated.”

“Apart from this, 42918 candidates have also cleared the exam conducted by the BPSC for the post of headmasters who will be provided appointment letters next month. By combining these four phases, the number of new teachers, appointed through BPSC will reach 3, 09, 476,” said the CM while extending his wishes to the newly appointed teachers.

Earlier, the CM while addressing the gathering at Gandhi Maidan highlighted that the state government has allotted a significant portion of the budget for education (22 per cent). He also underscored that his government is committed to bring gender parity in education.

The CM added that education, especially for girls has been the main focus of the government from the beginning, and a number of schemes were initiated to provide scholarship, cycles, dresses and financial aid to women.

He noted that he had to begin from scratch to improve the education and social environment of the state as the earlier government did nothing in this regard.

Hailing the development, deputy CM Samrat Choudhary exuded confidence that the newly appointed teachers will contribute in shaping a prosperous Bihar by performing their duties with full devotion. He further promised that more such appointments will continue in future.

“So far lakhs of youth have been given appointment letters for government jobs under the NDA government. In the future, more appointment will continue in large numbers, tweeted the deputy CM.

Significantly, Choudhary who also oversee the finance, in his budget speech recently had announced a whopping Rs 60,954 crore budgetary allocations for education.

Other than doubling of scholarship amount of students, the finance minister during the speech had also announced to open new private medical colleges in the state with the participation of private sector.

He further had mentioned that out of the total 534 blocks in the state, 358 lacks an affiliated/government law college and the government will ensure establishment of one degree college at every block in a phased manner.

Notably, around 1.2 lakhs teachers were earlier appointed after the first phase of the BPSC teachers’ examination while around 96000 more teachers were handed over the appointment letters after the second phase of the teachers recruitment drive conducted by the BPSC.

The major recruitment drive has contributed to decrease the pupil to teacher ratio in the state which now stands marginally over than the national standard set up under the National Education Policy 2020.
