The Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj has attracted over 50 crore devotees, generating a remarkable Rs 3 lakh crore for Uttar Pradesh’s economy, with a Rs 15,000 crore investment in the event. The Mahakumbh 2025, a historic religious congregation held once every 144 years, is now in its final phase in Prayagraj. The month-long event, which has attracted millions of devotees from across the country and the world, has not only served as a spiritual experience but has also provided a significant boost to Uttar Pradesh’s economy.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a recent statement, highlighted the massive economic benefits brought by the Mahakumbh. He revealed that while the government invested Rs 1,5000 crore in organising the event, it has generated a staggering Rs 3 lakh crore for the state’s economy. The event, attended by more than 50 crore devotees, has reinforced Uttar Pradesh’s cultural and religious significance while benefiting various sectors such as tourism, hospitality, and transportation.

Speaking at the inauguration of a flyover in Lucknow, CM Yogi stated, “Fifty crore devotees took a dip in Prayagraj Mahakumbh in one month. These devotees have carried the message of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ with them. This spiritual event has helped Uttar Pradesh generate economic benefits worth ₹3 lakh crore.” He also pointed out that the Mahakumbh’s budget not only facilitated the successful conduct of the event but also led to the beautification of Prayagraj, attracting an unprecedented number of visitors.

Addressing a climate change conference at the Mahakumbh tent city, CM Yogi emphasised the urgent need to address environmental concerns. He stated that climate change is directly affecting water bodies and rivers, urging people to act responsibly rather than engaging in a blame game over carbon emissions. “Human survival is linked to the well-being of all living beings. If nature thrives, we thrive; if it is endangered, so is our existence,” he remarked.

Highlighting the role of faith in promoting environmental consciousness, CM Yogi urged devotees to integrate sustainable practices into their daily lives. He drew attention to the Uttar Pradesh government’s proactive efforts in rejuvenating rivers and ensuring clean water for pilgrims at the Mahakumbh. “The Ganga and Yamuna were not as clean ten years ago as they are today. The continuous release of 10,000 to 11,000 cusecs of water into the Ganga has ensured a smooth and sustainable experience for devotees,” he added.

The Chief Minister further outlined initiatives such as banning single-use plastics, promoting electric buses, and planting over 210 crore saplings in the past eight years, with a survival rate of 70-80 per cent for trees planted by the forest department. He called upon the public to actively participate in conservation efforts, urging them to eliminate plastic use, prevent pollution, and respect wildlife.

The Mahakumbh is not just a religious event but a massive cultural gathering that unites devotees, saints, and spiritual leaders. CM Yogi met with revered saints, including Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati, Swami Chidanand Saraswati Muni, and Jagadguru Swami Mukundanand. He participated in religious discourses and engaged with devotees at various camps, including the Swarved Mahamandir Trust and Prabhu Premi Sangh.

During his visit, CM Yogi assured the sadhu community that future religious events would be conducted with the same grandeur. He also attended a discourse by renowned storyteller Kathavachak Pradeep Mishra, further reinforcing the spiritual depth of the Mahakumbh.

While speaking at the climate change conference, CM Yogi expressed deep sorrow over the stampede incident at the New Delhi railway station, offering condolences to the families of the deceased.
