Sukma: In a tragic development, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma on Tuesday, February 11, police said.

According to the preliminary report, the incident took place near a security camp at Sukma-Dantewada inter-district border under Jagargunda police station limits, injuring a CRPF head-constable .

“A team of security personnel was out on area domination exercise in the area, during their return to the camp head-constable M N Shukla accidently stepped on a pressure IED, leading to an explosion. The injured jawan was administered primary treatment and airlifted to Raipur,” said a senior official of the police.

Notably, two jawans were martyred during a fierce exchange of fire between a joint team of security forces and extremists in Kalkellar hill area near Maharashtra border on Sunday, February 9.

The operation resulted in a major success for the security forces as they neutralised as many as 31 Maoists, including 11 women cadres of the banned outfit. The joint team also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the encounter site, including an AK-47, SLR and BGL launcher.

Paying his tribute to the martyred personnel, Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a post on X said “Today we have lost two of our brave soldiers in the effort to end anti-human Naxalism. This country will always be indebted to these heroes. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred soldiers.”

“I also reiterate my resolve that before 31 March 2026, we will completely eradicate Naxalism from the country, so that no citizen of the country has to lose his life due to it,” he added.
