Madhepura: In a troubling development, clashes erupt between two communities in Abhiya Tola under Chausa police station limits over a dispute related to debt, leaving over a dozen people injured. Three sub-inspectors along with a few other policemen have also sustained injuries in the attack.
The scuffle broke out over a dispute related to an old payment at a tobacco shop near Hanuman temple Abhiya tola, Basetha, leading to violent confrontation between the youths of two groups on Friday morning, February 7.
Around two dozen people are reported to be injured in the skirmish which also witness stone pelting from both sides. The locality is said to be communally sensitive and a similar confrontation had also broke out in the year 2016.
The police after receiving the information soon reached the spot and tried diffusing the tension. The rioters however responded by vandalizing a police vehicle along attacking the personnel, leaving many of them injured.
The situation remained hostile till more personnel along with senior officials reached the spot, taking control of the situation. An FIR involving over 100 people including 54 named individuals was registered at the Chausa police station, after which the police launched a major manhunt to nab the accused, apprehending a total of 34 people.

The arrests were made on the basis of cctv footage analysis and inputs received from local sources. The matter is being investigated and more arrests are likely, said police in an official statement issued on Saturday, February 8. The situation is under control and normal, added the statement.
