Ramgarh: In a disturbing development, devotees taking out an immersion procession of Maa Sarasvati were stopped and attacked by a group of people in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district on Tuesday February 4.

According to reports, a scuffle broke out in Gola of Ramgarh when the devotees were taking out an idol immersion procession on Tuesday, leading to injuries to a few.

A video of the incident has also gone viral on the internet in which a few people could be seen engaging in a confrontation with the devotees carrying out the procession.

Highlighting the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Chief Minister of the State Babu Lal Marandi on Wednesday said “two devotees have sustained injuries after an Immersion procession of Saraswati Puja was attacked by a particular community in Gola of Ramgarh yesterday.

“The villagers were peacefully carrying out the procession when people of a particular community attacked them after stopping their way. What astonishing is that even after identities of the accused are clearly visible in the video of the incident, the police has not arrested any of the accused,” said Marandi while sharing the video of the incident on social media platform X.

He further while citing a previous incident said “A few years back Rupesh Pandey was killed during an immersion procession of Sarasvati Puja. Are you and your police administration waiting for another such murder of an innocent,” questioned Marandi.

He further asked that why has the administration given so much leniency to the people of a particular community to create a ruckus? Are criminals being given a free hand due to appeasement policy of the Hemant government, he added while demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

Replying to Marandi’s tweet, Ramgarh police in a post informed that “the police has taken cognizance of the matter and legal action are being taken against the accused. The situation is peaceful and under control at present.”
