Patna: In a significant move, state cabinet led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, February 4 accorded nod to a record 136 proposals, during a cabinet meet held in the capital city.

The cabinet during the meet discussed and accorded nod to as many as 82 schemes along approval for hosting the world cup championship for women’s kabaddi. The development marks the highest ever agenda approved by the Chief Minister Kumar since he assumed office.

The CM during his ‘Pragiti Yatra’ in the northern districts of the State had announced a total of 188 schemes, costing around Rs 20000 Crore. A total of 82 schemes entailing an expenditure of around Rs 13142 crore were accorded nod in the cabinet meet held on Tuesday. A total of 67 schemes were approved at the department levels while the state cabinet during its previous meet had given nod to as many as 39 schemes, informed a senior official of the State government.

The cabinet has also given nod to host the women Kabaddi world championship which will be organised in March this year at the newly built sports academy in Rajgir. The championship will witness participation of teams from 16 countries. The cabinet has also approved the hosting of world cup of Sepak Takraw for both men and women this year at Patliputra sports complex in the capital town.

Government to develop Harihar Mandir Kshetra and other religious sites

The state cabinet also approved tourism department’s proposal to develop notable religious sites in the State. This include overall development of the Harihar temple area in Sonepur, various development work at Someshawar nath temple at Areraj, Siheneshwar Sthan at Madhepura, Kusheshwar Sthan of Darbhanga, Pooran Devi temple in Purnia and others.

The cabinet has approved the selection of H.C.P Design planning and management Pvt. Ltd as principal consultant on nomination basis for the overall development of Baba Hariharnath Temple area at Sonepur. The company has earlier planned and designed the Vishwanath corridor at Varanasi.

Land acquisition for greenfield airport to begin soon

Meanwhile, Deputy CM and Finance Minister, Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday said that the State government would soon begin the land acquisition process for the proposed greenfield airports at Rajgir, Bhagalpur and Sonepur.

“We are going to start the land acquisition process for the three greenfield airports announced in the central budget. The process will commence at this month’ end,” said Choudhary. The BJP leader further emphasised that “once completed, the newly built airports would boost the aviation connectivity in the State.”

Notably, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on January 31 announced three greenfield airport for Bihar in addition to expanding the capacity of Patna Airport and constructing a brownfield airport in Bihta.

The FM also announced several other projects for the State, including establishment of a Makahana board and National Institute of Food Technology.

She also highlighted the Western Kosi Canal ERM project in the Mithilanchal region of the State, announcing that financial support will be provided for the Western Kosi Canal project, benefitting a large number of farmers cultivating over 50,000 hectares of land in the Mithilanchal region.

Hailing the announcements, Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal underlined that the budget addresses Bihar’s needs. “There is a discussion in the budget about starting an airport under the Udan scheme for Bihar, building a medical college and an expressway. Bihar has been taken great care of in the budget. The central government is helping in every way for the development of Bihar,” he said.
