A shocking case of love jihad has come to light from the Robertsganj area in Sonbhadra district, where a Muslim man posed as a Hindu to lure a widowed Hindu woman into a relationship, only to exploit her sexually and emotionally for years. The case was registered by the police following a court order after initial inaction.
The victim, a widow since 2013, recounted her ordeal in a police complaint. After the death of her husband in an accident, she moved in with her aunt in Robertsganj. Three years later, in 2016, she met a man who introduced himself as Abhishek. The two began communicating frequently, and he eventually promised to marry her. Trusting his intentions, the woman entered a relationship with him.
However, the man, whose real name was later revealed to be Saddam, allegedly used the relationship to sexually exploit her. According to the victim, he secretly recorded intimate moments to blackmail her and maintain control over her.
The woman eventually discovered Saddam’s real identity and confronted him. She alleged that he pressured her to convert to Islam as a precondition for marriage. When she resisted, Saddam reportedly assaulted her. Matters escalated when she became pregnant, and Saddam forced her to undergo an abortion under duress.
The victim initially approached the police to seek justice but alleged that no action was taken on her complaint. Determined to fight for her rights, she sought legal recourse, and the court ordered the Robertsganj police to register a case against Saddam.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Kalus Singh confirmed the development, stating, “A case has been registered against the accused, and a thorough investigation is underway. Appropriate legal action will follow based on the findings.”
The case has sparked outrage in the region, with calls for swift justice and stricter measures to prevent such instances of deceit and exploitation. Activists and local leaders have highlighted the need for greater vigilance and awareness to protect vulnerable individuals from such predatory behaviour.
