Patna: Police on Sunday, January 12 lodged an FIR against Purnea MP Pappu Yadav and his supporters for obstructing traffic and vandalizing vehicles during a one-day bandh (shutdown) against alleged irregularities in 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) preliminary examination held on December 13.

As many as 15 people were detained and action was being taken against the rest of the demonstrators on the basis of the CCTV footage and other video evidence, said Patna district administration in an official statement issued on Sunday.

According to the reports, those detained were later released after signing the bail bond. This comes amidst the supporters of Purnea MP reportedly vandalized a few shops and vehicles during the bandh.

Yadav’s supporters took out protest marches across several districts of the state, jamming roads and halting the traffic on Sunday. The demonstrators under the banner of “Chhatra Yuva Shakti” also burnt tyres and forced shops to shut down.

In Patna, supporters of Yadav blocked the Patna-Gaya road along attacking vehicles engaged in construction work of the city metro project. The MP himself joined the protest march taken out from Income tax to Dak Bunglow Chauraha, raising slogans against the alleged irregularities in the said examination.

Earlier Yadav claimed that those opposing the students have lost public support and his one-day Bihar Bandh is widely backed by the people of the state.

On Saturday, Yadav announced his collaboration with Azad Party founder Chandrashekhar Azad and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi over the BPSC issue.
