Raipur: As many 4 Maoists were killed during a joint search operation in the South Abujmarh forest area at the Narayanpur-Dantewada district border of Chhattisgarh, according to Inspector General of Bastar, P Sundarraj.

As per Sundarraj, Head Constable Sannu Karam of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was also killed in action during the operation.

The operation was conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) in coordination with DRG teams from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Jagdalpur, and Kondagaon districts in the Abujmarh area on Friday, the IG Bastar added.

The encounter, which began on Saturday evening, resulted in the deaths of four uniformed Maoists. Automatic weapons, including AK-47s and SLRs, were recovered during the search, Sundarraj stated.

Praising the efforts of the security forces, Chhatisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stressed that security forces have been giving a befitting reply in their fight against the extremists.

“Our security forces have been strongly fighting Maoists and the double-engine government is also benefitting us… I wish peace for the officer who was martyred…,” CM Sai told ANI.

Meanwhile reacting to the news of Head Constable Sannu Karam, Deputy CM Vijay Sharma said “sad news has been received about the martyrdom of DRG jawan, Head Constable Sannu Karam Ji in the encounter. His supreme sacrifice will not go in vain. Our fight against Maoism will continue till the decisive turn.”

Over 200 Maoists were neutralised in counter insurgency operations launched in the state in the last one year alone, reflecting the aggressive strategy adopted by the security forces in dealing with the Maoist insurgency in violence-hit Bastar in recent times.
