Raipur: In a significant development in Chhattisgarh’s Shakti district, over 600 people reverted to Sanatan fold in a “Ghar Wapsi” ceremony that was held on Sunday, December 29.

The ceremony was part of the “Virat Hindu Sammelan” organised under the banner of “Sarv Sanatan Hindu Panchayat” where a total of 651 people reverted to Sanatan fold. Those who made a comeback in religion of their ancestors were reportedly practicing Christianity before reuniting with the Sanatan Dharma.

The conference was attended by a number of Dharm Gurus and local Hindu activists who expressed serious concern over the illegal conversion related activities in Shakti and adjoining regions.

“Illegal conversion related activities are being promoted in Shakti and adjoining regions by the missionaries. This has been leading to a change in demography, eventually affecting the elections. It’s a matter of grave concern,” read a press note issued after the program.

The Ghar Wapsi related rituals were headed by senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Prabal Pratap Singh Judev who welcomed the returnees by washing their feet with sacred Gangajal before an impressive gathering.

Speaking with the Organiser, Judev emphasised that “Sanatan culture is endangered by fake Hindus. These Crypto Christians are cunningly promoting conversion related activities by portraying themselves as Hindus. They need to be unmasked and strict action should be taken against them.”

“The youth needs to take a lead in such campaigns (Ghar Wapsi); only then the Hindu society could effectively fight against the grave threat poses by the illegal conversion,” added Judev who has been relentlessly organising similar Ghar Wapsi ceremonies mostly under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Ghar Wapsi Abhiyan.

Notably, incidents linked with promotion of illegal conversion have been keep coming to light in the tribal populated State often triggering scuffles between the members of the Hindu and the Christian community.

These incidents have also led to mass protest by local Hindus who have been echoing their voices for a stringent anti-conversion law in the state to deal with the issue of illegal conversion.

Those seeking a stringent law in the State alleged that rampant conversion activities have led to large scale conversion of local tribals in a number of pockets in the State, majority of the newly converts however remain practicing Hindus on paper, primarily to avail reservation related benefits reserved exclusively for the Scheduled Tribes.
