One Muslim family and 11 Christian people embraced Sanatan Dharma in Assam on December 20. Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) organised a ‘Ghar Wapsi’ program in Bongaigaon city in lower Assam. 11 people who were converted to Christianity earlier returned to Sanatan Dharma. All these people belong to the ‘Koch Rajbanshi’ community and converted to Christianity a few years ago. The people conveyed their desire to return to Sanatan Dharm leaving Christianity and they got connected with local VHP leaders, expressing thgeir desire to do Ghar Wapsi.

After completing all the formalities, the rituals pertaining to Ghar Wapsi were performed on December 20. The 11 people embraced Sanatan Dharma performing vedic rituals and Jangya. One person who embraced Sanatan Dharma said that they were lured by some missionaries to convert to Christianity for some cash and other material help. Missionaries also built a church in the area and targeted the poor people of the area.

Another woman said that she converted because of her daughter’s illness. They said that her daughter would be cured if she converted to Christianity. But unfortunately her daughter died, and they couldn’t do any help.

On the other hand, one Muslim family in the Sonapur area near Guwahati embraced Sanatan in a Vedic ritual on 20th December. Hafiz Ali and his wife Rizwana Begum did Ghar Wapsi anf they embraced Sanatan Dharma and their new identity will be Rahul Bodo and Bhumika Bodo. Rahul said that he has seen many crimes amongst Muslims nowadays. So he was attracted to Sanatan Dharma after attending the Lakshmi puja held in Kochutoli area. The area was evicted by the Assam government recently.

Kochutoli is a reserved area for tribal people. But thousands of Bangladeshi-origin Muslim encroached the entire tribal block for years. The Assam government conducted a series of eviction and. cleared the area. Islamist attacked police and administration teams while conducting evictions. 22 police and government officials were injured in the attack by the Islamists. Two attackers were also killed in police retaliation. After the eviction, local people organised Kali puja and Lakshmi puja in the area.

Many Muslim families attended the puja there, and now many of them are willing to embrace Sanatan Dharm after seeing the purity of the culture.
