India International Science Festival 2024 at IIT Guwahati brought together over 20,000 participants in a celebration of scientific advancements, sustainability, and education. The festival showcased groundbreaking innovations and collaborations, igniting inspiration among the next generation of scientists and innovators

ISRO Chairperson, Dr S Somanath, addressed 4,500 students during the “Student Science Interactive Program,” urging them to pursue careers in science and technology. “Students are the torchbearers of a brighter tomorrow. By embracing today’s innovations, they can help India emerge as a global leader in science and technology,” he said. The session featured a dynamic Q&A with renowned scientists to spark curiosity and ambition.

Pioneering Technology Transfers for Sustainability
The event marked the signing of three significant technology transfer agreements by CSIR:

● Biodegradable Cutlery Technology: Transferred to Bengaluru’s Devaki Engineering Enterprises to promote eco-friendly agricultural practices.

● Road Infrastructure R&D: Partnered with Rajasthan Technical University to advance research in road construction.

● Lilium Bulb Processing Technology: Handed to Himachal Pradesh’s Shansha Cut-Flower Cluster, enhancing floriculture and local economies.

“These innovations showcase the power of science in tackling global challenges and fostering socio-economic development,” said Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan, Director of CSIR-NIIST.

Focus on Education, Sustainability, and Innovation
IISF 2024 emphasized skill development and sustainability through various initiatives:

● Vision Sansad: Reinforced India’s goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub by 2047.

● S&T Hackathon: Showcased 400 students’ innovative solutions.

● The Gurukula: Trained 150 educators in modern teaching techniques.

● Science Safari: Introduced interactive learning for science teachers of grades 5 to 12.

Regional and Global Impact
Special sessions highlighted unique regional challenges and India’s scientific strides:

● Science Odyssey of North East India: Focused on regional development and innovation.

● New Frontiers in S&T Panel: Featured advancements in quantum computing under the National Quantum Mission.

● Science Communication Conclave: Stressed the importance of sharing India’s achievements globally, with launches of Employment News and Science India Magazine.

Catalyst for a Science-Driven Future
By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and promoting sustainability and education, IISF 2024 underscored India’s growing prowess in science and technology. As the event progressed, it strengthened the vision of India achieving global leadership in innovation by 2047.
