MULUGU: In yet another incident of targeted killing of civilians, Maoists armed with sharp edged weapons have killed two people of the tribal community in Wazeedu block of Mulugu district of Telangana. The gruesome incident has taken place in Penugolu village on late Thursday evening, November 21, sending shockwaves across the region.
According to the reports, around half a dozen cadres of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) entered the Penugolu village on late Thursday evening and dragged both the tribal men from their house. They later stabbed them before with axes and other sharp edged weapons.
One of the deceased U Ramesh was a Panchayat Secretary while the other one was a farmer by profession. The Maoists have alleged both for being informers of the police, a charge often used by the dreaded group against civilians in the areas dominated by them.
A letter branding both the civilians as informers were dropped near the bodies of the deceased in which the responsibility of the gruesome murder was claimed by Venkatapuram-Wazeedu Area Committee of the outlaws.
An alert has been sounded by the authorities following the incident and search operations in the nearby regions have been carried out. The special forces have also been combing in the areas adjacent to the Chhattisgarh border.
More than 50 civilians have been killed in separate incidents of violence carried out by the extremists in neighboring state of Chhattisgarh in the last one year, underscoring the chilling reality of common citizens residing in the areas marred by red terror.
