Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh chaired a very crucial meeting with the legislators to discuss the current situation of the state, which has been boiling since November 11 when 10 Kuki attacks were Killed in a fight with security forces. After the deadly clash, six persons, including three women and three minors, were abducted by kuki terrorists. Later, the bodies of those abducted persons were found in the Jiri and Barak rivers.
The situation worsened when angry agitators took the law into their hands and attacked government properties, political parties’ offices and, MLAs, minister’s houses. Chairing the crucial meeting of the legislators CM Singh said, “Chaired a crucial meeting with ruling MLAs today where we strongly condemned the recent killing of innocents in Jiribam. Rest assured, justice will be ensured, and firm action will be taken up against the perpetrators. Key decisions on AFSPA and strengthening law & order were also taken to ensure peace and stability in the state.”
After the meeting, the Manipur government announced its intention to declare the Kuki militants responsible for the tragic killings of six innocent women and children in Jiribam as an ‘unlawful organisation’ within the next seven days. This resolution was part of a series of decisions during a high-level meeting held on November 18, 2024, by the state’s ruling MLAs at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal.
The MLAs urged for the group to be designated as an “illegal organisation” within seven days and requested quick “mass operations against Kuki militants responsible” for the November 11 incident. According to a resolution adopted at the conference, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) lawmakers would choose the next steps after consulting the public if these demands were not fulfilled within the allotted period. It also guaranteed legal action against individuals who damaged lawmakers’ residences during demonstrations.
