Guwahati: Sainik School Goalpara (SSG), one of India’s leading educational institutions, marked a historic milestone on November 12 2024, celebrating its Diamond Jubilee with magnificent ceremonies and heartfelt tributes to six decades of unparalleled dedication to education, discipline, and service to the nation. Noteworthy to mention that the school has to its credit about 300 officers who joined Armed Forces through National Defence Academy and various other entries. Also, many ex-cadets of the school joined numerous other esteemed professions both in the country and abroad.
Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Hon’ble Governor of Assam graced the grand occasion as the Chief Guest. Also, esteemed dignitaries, a large number of guests, alumni and parents joined the celebrations to honour SSG’s rich legacy and enduring mission of shaping the future leaders of the nation.
Upon his arrival in the school, Hon’ble Governor inaugurated a memorial, constructed by the Old Boys’ Association of Sainik School Goalpara (OBASSG), as a tribute to the departed souls who once graced the hallowed grounds of this institution with their presence.
The main programme featured an impressive sequence of events, including lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest and the welcome address by distinguished alumnus, Brig Ajit Kumar Borah, VSM, Group Commander, NCC Grp HQs, Guwahati. On behalf of the school fraternity, distinguished alumnus Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) felicitated the Chief Guest with a traditional Assamese ‘gamosa’ and a ‘xorai’.
A special felicitation ceremony followed during which, Col Y S Parmar, SM, Principal honoured distinguished alumni Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) and Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd). It was followed by the release of a special ‘Diamond Jubilee Edition’ and a ‘Special Cover’.
Finally, the Chief Guest’s keynote address resounded with admiration for SSG’s legacy, reflecting on its unwavering contribution to the nation and the indomitable spirit of its students. Hon’ble Governor also witnessed an awe-inspiring ‘Weapon Display’ by the Indian Army. In a solemn display of honour post the formal ceremony, the Chief Guest hoisted the school flag, followed by a meticulously coordinated Guard of Honour presented by nominated cadets of the school. It was followed by an exhilarating ‘Dog Show’ by the 19 Army Dog Unit and a captivating ‘Band Display’ by the Assam Regimental Centre’s Military Band.
The celebrations continued into the evening with a captivating cultural extravaganza, featuring renowned singer Kalpana Patowary and a music band whose performance enchanted the audience. As the festivities drew to a close, a spectacular ‘Laser Show’ narrated the story of SSG’s storied journey, followed by a dazzling ‘Fireworks Display’ that illuminated the skies, symbolizing the school’s brilliant legacy and its bright future.
This Diamond Jubilee celebration is not just a tribute to SSG’s legacy of excellence, but a testament to its vision for the future, driven by its motto, ‘Sarva Mein Sadhyam’ (Everything is Achievable).
