Bhubaneswar: The romance began through an online game, where Mansoor concealed his true identity and pretended to be Hindu, ensnaring a young woman in a love affair. He later travelled to Odisha and engaged in physical relations with her. When his real identity was revealed, he pressured her to convert to Islam for marriage. Upon her refusal, he threatened to leak intimate videos on social media, blackmailing her and extorting five lakh rupees from her family. Eventually, Mansoor was caught in a trap set by the Odisha police and arrested. This shocking case of “love jihad” has emerged in Odisha, where two similar cases have been reported in recent days.

According to reports, a young woman from Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha met a young man named Sameer through the Free Fire online  game in 2022. Sameer claimed to be from Bihar and working in Kashmir. Gradually, they fell in love while playing the game, exchanging phone numbers and talking regularly. After nearly two years of phone conversations, Sameer visited Odisha. The girl lied to her family and travelled to Puri to meet him at a hotel. However, she soon discovered that Sameer was not Hindu and that his real name was Mansoor. This revelation led to an argument, during which Mansoor forcibly had physical relations with her and secretly recorded a video of their intimate moments.

Subsequently, Mansoor began pressuring her to marry him, insisting that she convert to Islam first. When the girl informed her family, they refused to approve the marriage. Mansoor then threatened to release intimate videos on social media if she did not convert and marry him. He even sent some clips to her father and uploaded others online. Desperate to protect their reputation, the girl’s father paid him five lakh rupees. However, Mansoor continued to blackmail her.

With no other option, the young woman and her family approached the police, lodging a complaint at the Women’s Police Station in Bhubaneswar. A case was filed against Mansoor under various sections.

“The youth works in J&K and stays there. Initially, he told me his short name, which led me to believe he was a Hindu boy. Later, I discovered he was Muslim. He has been mentally torturing me and my family, and I seek justice,” the victim stated.

“After feeling scared, the girl sought help and contacted me. When she refused to convert, she was blackmailed by the youth, who even threatened her with dire consequences,” said the victim’s female counsel, Sanghamitra Rajguru.

The Women’s Police Station and Special Strike Team devised a plan to capture him. Through various pretexts, the girl convinced Mansoor to come to Bhubaneswar, where the police apprehended him en route. He was arrested, and his mobile phone was confiscated. The victim’s statement was recorded on Friday, and DCP Pinak Mishra stated that the police would seek remand to investigate the matter thoroughly.
