RANCHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday attacked Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for insulting former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren and said that JMM left no stone unturned in insulting a tribal son.

“What did these people (JMM) do to Champai Soren ji… these people left no stone unturned in insulting a tribal son. Those for whom nothing is bigger than their family, how will they care for you people? Such selfish parties have to be taught a good lesson,” PM Modi said, addressing a rally in Jharkhand’s Garhwa.

Soren resigned from all positions and the primary membership of JMM on August 28. He became the chief minister of Jharkhand on February 2, shortly after Hemant Soren resigned as the CM before being arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in a money laundering case. In less than two months, Soren had to step down to allow the return of Hemant Soren to the chair following the latter’s bail in the case.

On August 30 this year, Champai Soren joined the BJP owing it to the welfare of tribals in the state.

PM Modi also launched a sharp attack on Congress, accusing it of failing to deliver on its promises and said that he was shocked to see that even Congress Mallikarjun Kharge has also accepted that Congress’ false promises will destroy states.

“Government employees had to hold protests to get their DAs and salaries in Himachal Pradesh. The people of Telangana are suffering because of the false promises of Congress… I am shocked to see that even Congress Mallikarjun Kharge has also accepted that Congress’ false promises will destroy states. This is why, you should not trust the fake promises of Congress,” PM Modi added.

Earlier, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge meted out advice to the Congress units headed for polls cautioning them to announce guarantees on the basis of their budget.

Mallikarjun Kharge urged for careful consideration and warned that an unplanned approach could lead to financial difficulties and negatively impact future generations.

During the press conference, he underscored the importance of fiscal responsibility, stating that if the government fails to deliver on its commitments, it could result in a bad reputation and hardships for the community.

Kharge’s statement came after the Congress government in Karnataka suggested that it could review the Shakti scheme which ensured free bus transport for women.

Meanwhile addressing a press conference in New Delhi, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said that, “As part of a conspiracy, Bangladeshi intruders are settled in Jharkhand and they are married to women of the scheduled tribes and then their land is looted… This is also a big threat to our internal security… If the NDA-BJP government is formed in Jharkhand, the lands of the scheduled tribe people will be returned… The public will give a befitting reply to those who hatch such conspiracies…”

Notably, the BJP has led a fierce campaign over the illegal infiltration issue and has promised to carry out an exercise aimed at deporting the illegal infiltrators from the state if the party emerges victorious in the upcoming state assembly elections.

Election is scheduled in the state for 81 state assembly seats in two phases on November 13 and 20.
