Bhubaneswar: On Sunday, October 27, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducted an aerial survey to assess the cyclone-stricken areas of Paradip, Mahakalapada, Rajnagar, Rajkanika, and Chandbali. He was accompanied by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja. During the survey, the Chief Minister observed the extent of the damage and directed all relevant departments to carry out a swift and thorough assessment of the destruction. This immediate action aims to ensure that aid reaches the affected residents quickly and effectively.
Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari Reviews Relief and Rehabilitation Measures
Following the aerial survey, Minister Pujari convened a review meeting at the Office of the Relief Commissioner to evaluate the ongoing relief and rehabilitation activities in cyclone-impacted districts, including Baleshwar, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Mayurbhanj. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Ahuja, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, and other senior officials, along with District Collectors and Police Chiefs via teleconference.
A significant concern discussed was the widespread flooding in areas surrounding the Budhabalanga and Sona rivers in Mayurbhanj District, where heavy rainfall from Cyclone Dana has caused overflowing waters that have affected several villages. Minister Pujari was informed that water levels have begun to recede, leading to gradual improvement in the situation.
Relief and rehabilitation efforts are progressing rapidly. Officials reported that 218 electric poles in Bhadrak District were uprooted, with 191 already restored. Odisha Fire Services and disaster management personnel are tirelessly clearing trees and debris to restore access to these areas. Additionally, the government has been providing cooked meals to 25,709 people in 426 relief centres across the affected regions.
As water levels subside and access is restored, many residents have started returning home from cyclone shelters. However, some areas remain submerged, leaving certain communities stranded. The Minister emphasised that food and essential supplies will continue to be provided to those still in shelters.
In an on-ground assessment, District Minister Suraj Suryabanshi visited Bhadrak to meet with locals and evaluate the status of recovery efforts. The government is committed to ensuring that all affected communities receive the necessary support to recover and rebuild in the aftermath of Cyclone Dana.
