PATNA: In an eye catching development Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday, October 18 arrested senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official Sanjeev Hans and former MLA of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Gulab Yadav in connection with a money laundering investigation being conducted by the agency.
The sleuths of the agency apprehended the Bihar cadre officer Hans from his official residence in state’s capital Patna after conducting a thorough search operation there while the former legislator was detained by a team of the agency in New Delhi.
The development has taken place after the economic investigative agency conducted a series of raids at premises linked to IAS Hans across separate places, recovering various incriminating documents, cash amounting to Rs 1.5 crore, gold and silver worth 1.6 crores.
ED had also conducted raids at locations linked to Yadav, a former MLA from Jhanjharpur constituency in Madhubani district. Earlier the agency also recommended filing of FIRs against both Yadav and Hans to the Special Vigilance Unit (SVU), an anti-corruption unit of the Bihar police.
Following ED’s recommendation the Bihar police lodged an FIR against IAS Hans, MLA Yadav and around a dozen of their associates in September this year leading to the arrest of both Yadav and Hans by ED under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Both Yadav and Hans are reported to be arrested in connection with alleged irregularities linked with ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’, a Union Government scheme aimed at providing safe and clean drinking water through household tap connections.

The arrest of the senior bureaucrat and the former legislator has arrived on the heels of ED’s raids at multiple locations across Jharkhand in connection with a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission scheme under Drinking Water and Sanitation Department on Monday, October 14.
More than 20 locations, including of Jharkhand’s Drinking Water and Sanitation minister Mithilesh Thakur, his brother Vinay Thakur, personal secretary Harendra Singh, a businessman, IAS Manish Ranjan and several other engineers of the department were raided in Ranchi, Chaibasa, and Garhwa in connection with the alleged irregularities in implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
