The Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a significant road construction project which is aimed at increasing infrastructure in the border regions of Punjab and Rajasthan. This ambitious initiative includes the construction of 2,280 kilometers of roads, with an investment of Rs 4,406 crore. This reflects on the government’s determination to enhance connectivity and improve rural livelihoods in these strategically important areas.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, commenting on the project, emphasised that Prime Minister Modi has consistently prioritised the development of India’s border regions. Union Minister Vaishnaw stated that areas once known as the “last villages” are now called the “first villages” under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He emphasised the government’s ongoing efforts to improve border areas by connecting them with the national road network, ensuring better integration and development.
This road construction project aligns with the recently launched ‘Vibrant Village Program,’ a key government initiative that aims to improve road infrastructure and connectivity in border areas. The program’s goal is not only to enhance accessibility but also to transform these remote regions into centers of growth and development.
The Cabinet’s approval underscores the government’s long-term vision for these areas, focusing on building world-class infrastructure and providing essential services to uplift local communities. By improving connectivity, the project aims to foster economic activity, facilitate better governance, and ensure that border villages are no longer left behind in terms of development.
This project goes far beyond just road construction. According to a report, the initiative includes comprehensive development plans that aim to improve key sectors like telecom connectivity, healthcare facilities, water supply, and education in the border regions of Punjab and Rajasthan.

In another important move, the Union Cabinet has approved the construction of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal, Gujarat. The NMHC is envisioned as the world’s largest maritime heritage complex and will showcase India’s rich maritime history.
This ambitious project will be constructed in two phases, with the Cabinet approving funds for Phases 1B and 2. What makes this initiative unique is the plan to fund the project voluntarily, allowing for widespread participation in preserving India’s maritime legacy.
The NMHC will serve as a center for learning and tourism, attracting visitors from across the globe while educating them about India’s extensive maritime heritage, which dates back thousands of years. By highlighting India’s maritime contributions, the project also aims to instill pride in the nation’s historical achievements and showcase its global influence in maritime trade and exploration.
