Telangana: VHP Slams Owaisi’s disruptive tactics at Waqf board JPC meeting in Hyderabad

Flouting JPC rules, Asaduddin Owaisi stormed into the meeting hall with followers, disrupting proceedings. His tactic of bypassing scheduled appointment slots was aimed at exerting pressure and minimizing time for other viewpoints on the Waqf.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Telangana delegation took a firm and assertive stance, confronting the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) during the opinion-gathering session on the Waqf Board Act Amendments held in Hyderabad on September 28. The VHP, unwavering in its defense of Hindu interests, argued that the Waqf Board Act grants unconstitutional privileges to Muslims based solely on religion, infringing on the legal rights of Bharatiyas, and should be repealed without delay.

Led by VHP State President B. Narasimhamurthy and National Spokesperson Dr. Ravinuthala Sasidhar, the delegation meticulously presented the glaring irregularities in the functioning of the Waqf Board to the JPC members. The VHP exposed how the Wakf Board has become a tool for unchecked land grabs and corruption, with thousands of crores worth of assets at stake. The VHP called for immediate corrective action to restore accountability and protect the rights of the victims affected by these illegal encroachments.

However, the proceedings took an unpleasant turn when Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi attempted to use his political clout to hijack the meeting.

Earlier, the VHP staged a dharna outside the JPC, protesting against Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s presence in the meeting, accusing him of using his political influence to intimidate and exert pressure on the victims.

Flouting the rules of the JPC, Asaduddin Owaisi stormed into the meeting hall with his followers, evidently aiming to disrupt the proceedings. He proactively brought his known groups to the JPC without adhering to the scheduled appointment slots, seeking to exert pressure and ensure that there was little time left for other voices to be heard regarding the Waqf. This brazen act was met with strong opposition from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which immediately staged a dharna demanding Owaisi’s removal from the meeting. “Owaisi’s presence at this meeting was a calculated attempt to intimidate the victims and suppress their voices. His cronies are deeply involved in illegal real estate dealings on Waqf lands, and he wanted to ensure that this truth did not come to light before the JPC,” said Dr. Ravinuthala Sasidhar, speaking to Organiser.

“This meeting should have been held in the Old City where the real Waqf victims, who have been deprived of their lands and justice, reside. Instead, Owaisi tried to shield the truth in the comfort of a five-star hotel, far from the suffering public,” asserted Dr. Sasidhar.

VHP members revealed how Owaisi’s presence was a deliberate ploy to derail the discussions. “He was constantly shouting like a commentator, interrupting our every word to the JPC Chairman. It was an underhanded strategy to waste our time and prevent us from presenting our case fully. Such behavior is not only shameful but dangerous,” Dr. Sasidhar added.

After meeting, and speaking to the media, Dr. Shashidhar stated, “The Waqf Board has evolved into an extra-constitutional authority, with no accountability to either the Supreme Court or Parliament. It blatantly violates the fundamental rights of individuals. We call ourselves a secular country, but a law that grants special provisions to a specific religion is simply unacceptable. The mistakes made by earlier governments must be corrected immediately.”

Vinod Bansal, VHP’s National Spokesperson, also took to X (formerly Twitter) to call out Owaisi’s disruptive antics. “As always, Owaisi’s behavior was entirely unparliamentary. Today, the VHP gave him a dose of reality by exposing his attempt to seize Waqf Board assets worth 3000 crores. His unauthorized entry and bullying tactics were rightfully condemned by both the VHP and the JPC Chairman,” Bansal tweeted.

As the Waqf Board continues to operate without accountability, and with its assets being siphoned off under the pretext of religious privilege, the VHP’s demand for the immediate repeal of the Waqf Board Act stands firm.

The Waqf Board, a body that functions outside the purview of constitutional checks and balances, has become a major source of exploitation. Owaisi’s desperate attempts to stifle criticism only strengthen the case for dismantling this unjust system.
