In a significant push to infrastructure development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third-term government has invested Rs 3 lakh crore in its first 100 days in office. A senior government official disclosed that these investments, approved and launched within the early phase of Modi’s new term, focus on critical sectors such as roads, railways, ports, and airways.
Among the key projects is the Wadhavan mega port in Maharashtra, a major initiative estimated at ₹76,200 crore. Once completed, Wadhavan is expected to rank among the top 10 ports globally, further enhancing India’s maritime capabilities. This project is seen as a critical step toward boosting trade and economic growth, particularly along the western coastline.
The Modi government’s infrastructure initiatives also include the foundation stone laying of the Shinkhun La Tunnel, which will provide a crucial link between Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. This tunnel, once completed, will facilitate year-round connectivity, bolstering both defense logistics and tourism in the region. The official described this project as a significant milestone in advancing the government’s infrastructure goals.
Furthering its focus on railway development, the Modi government has greenlit eight new railway line projects, which are expected to generate 4.42 crore human-days of employment, providing a boost to local economies and creating significant job opportunities. Additionally, an investment of Rs 50,000 crore has been allocated for eight new high-speed corridor projects, spanning 936 kilometers, enhancing India’s transportation network.
The government also remains committed to improving rural and urban housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. In the first 100 days, the construction of 4.27 crore houses was sanctioned, a move aimed at fulfilling Modi’s promise of providing housing for all.
A senior official, speaking to The New Indian Express, emphasised the government’s mission-driven approach during these initial months. “We worked in a mission mode during the first 100 days of action plan with rounds of instructions coming at every cabinet meeting,” the official stated. “Whatever we have achieved in the last 100 days will help us in setting an example for other projects in the coming years,” he added, specifically highlighting the significance of the Shinkhun La Tunnel construction.
Another crucial initiative under Modi 3.0 is the plan to connect 25,000 villages with improved road infrastructure, a step that will integrate remote areas into the broader national framework, driving social and economic development.
As the government continues to lay the foundation for long-term growth through these initiatives, the initial results are already creating a roadmap for further infrastructural expansion.
