In a strategic move to position Uttar Pradesh as a key player in the global semiconductor industry, the Yogi Adityanath-led government will host Semicon India 2024 at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida from September 11 to 13. This landmark event, organised in collaboration with SEMI, Messe Muenchen India, and the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA), aims to strengthen India’s semiconductor sector and elevate the country as a significant global contender in this high-tech field.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the event on September 11, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in attendance, underscoring the importance of this initiative for India’s semiconductor ambitions.

Booming semiconductor market

The Indian semiconductor industry is on a rapid growth trajectory, with projections indicating that the regional chip market could surpass 55 billion dollars by 2026. Recognising this potential, the Uttar Pradesh government is actively seeking investments from semiconductor companies, positioning the state as a hub for innovation and manufacturing in this critical sector.

Semicon India 2024 will feature an expansive exhibition running from September 11 to 13, showcasing the latest advancements in semiconductor technology. Leading manufacturers from around the world will present their innovations, offering insights into the future direction of the industry.

Focus on critical areas

The second day of Semicon India 2024 will focus on essential topics such as cross-regional partnerships, flexible hybrid electronics, supply chain management, and sustainable practices within the industry. On the final day, September 13, attendees can look forward to a presentation by Micron on package manufacturing, a semiconductor fabrication boot camp hosted by the India Semiconductor Association (ISA), and an overview of the industry’s progress by the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).

This year’s Semicon India Exhibition and Conference will run concurrently with Electronica India and Productronica India, Southeast Asia’s largest electronics fairs. This co-location is expected to attract a diverse array of domestic and international companies, offering unparalleled opportunities to explore India’s burgeoning semiconductor sector and uncover new business prospects.

Dynamic programmes and networking opportunities

Semicon India 2024 will feature a diverse range of exhibitions, programmes, and networking opportunities. Participants will have the chance to engage with local industry leaders and government officials, gaining valuable insights into India’s semiconductor industry. The event aligns with the broader India Semiconductor Mission, which is supported by major global firms such as AMD, Applied Materials, and Micron Technology. The mission aims to bolster domestic chip production and foster innovation in semiconductor manufacturing.

Uttar Pradesh’s ambitious plans and incentives

In line with the national initiative, the Yogi Adityanath government is aggressively promoting Uttar Pradesh as a semiconductor manufacturing hub. The newly launched UP Semiconductor Policy offers substantial incentives to attract investors, including a 50 percent additional capital subsidy, a 75 percent rebate on land costs, a 100 percent exemption from electricity duty for 10 years, and a 5 percent interest subsidy of up to Rs 7 crore.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called on investors to explore Uttar Pradesh’s potential as the state aims to become a $1 trillion economy. Over the past seven years, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a significant electronics manufacturing hub, with over 200 companies and a commanding 65 percent share of India’s mobile production.

Enhancing infrastructure to attract global investment

Now, the state is expanding its focus to the fabless semiconductor sector, leveraging its extensive rail network and growing airport infrastructure, including the upcoming Noida International Airport. These developments are designed to enhance Uttar Pradesh’s attractiveness for high-tech industries, including global chip design and research and development companies.

With Semicon India 2024, Uttar Pradesh is poised to make a significant impact on the global semiconductor stage, paving the way for new investments, innovation, and growth in the region’s high-tech manufacturing sector.
