RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat on September 5, 2024, said the situation prevailing in Manipur was difficult and challenging and there was no guarantee of safety.
He was speaking at an event to mark the centenary year of Shankar Dinkar Kane (Bhaiyyaji), who worked in Manipur and Nagland and focused on children’s education and opened schools for the students. Shankar Dinkar Kane worked towards children’s education until 1971 in Manipur. He also brought students to Maharashtra and arranged for their stay.
To support the education of the children of northeastern region, Bhaiyyaji started Purva Seema Vikash Prathisthan (PSVP) with the objective of national integration through Education.
“The situation prevailing in Manipur is difficult. There is no guarantee of safety. The locals are doubtful about their security. For those who have gone there for business or work, the situation is even more challenging. But even in such conditions, the swayamsevaks of the Sangh are firmly stationed, serving people and are trying to settle the situation,” said Bhagwat.
He further said that the RSS swayamsevaks neither ever fled from the state nor sat idle. Instead, they have been working to normalise the situation and reduce conflict between the two groups so that a sense of national unity remains intact.
“The unrest we are witnessing in states like Manipur today is the work of some people who want to obstruct the path of progress. But their plan will not succeed,” Dr Bhagwat said.
When the situation was worse, some 40 years ago, people stayed, worked there, and helped in changing the situation, he said. “Sangh members, be it swayamsevaks or pracharaks, went there, became part of the region, and worked to bring change and peace,” he said.
It is to be noted that, RSS swayamsevaks have actively engaged in dialogue with all groups in Manipur, fostering understanding and mutual respect. This inclusive approach has earned them the trust and confidence of all the communities.
“NGOs cannot handle everything, but the RSS is leaving no stone unturned in doing what it can. Our swayamsevaks are engaging in dialogue with all the parties. As a result, they have gained people’s trust. The reason behind this trust is that locals have witnessed the work of people like Kane over the years,” he further said.
“We all talk about making Bharat a country that addresses global issues, but this is only possible due to the ‘tapascharya’ (dedication) of people like Shankar Dinkar Kane,” he said.
Notably, earlier in June this year, Dr Bhagwat while addressing an event in Nagpur pointed out the situation in Manipur and stressed that, “Manipur is waiting for peace for the last one year. There was peace in Manipur 10 years ago. It felt like gun culture had finished there. But the state has suddenly seen violence.”
