The political landscape in Karnataka has been thrown into turmoil following the decision by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot to grant permission for the prosecution of CM Siddaramaiah in connection with the Muda scam. This move has sparked widespread condemnation, particularly from the Congress party and various other organizations across the state. As the situation intensifies, the Governor has been provided with precautionary measures, including using a bullet-proof vehicle and providing Z-grade security by the police.

Following Governor’s decision, protests erupted statewide. According to sources within the Raj Bhavan, the Central Intelligence Agency has also advised the Governor to refrain from participating in public events until August 29., and some of them were temporarily suspended on the advice of the advice of agency. Prior to this incident, Governor Gehlot has been using a standard vehicle without any special security measures.

In addition to this, strict restrictions have been placed on visits to the Raj Bhavan. Officials have been instructed to allow visits only on an as-needed basis, with the Governor’s schedule being adjusted to limit his activities to Raj Bhavan duties. Currently, the Governor’s office is revising all public programs, emphasizing the seriousness of the security concerns.

Yesterday, due to security concerns, Governor Gehlot did not attend the first convocation ceremony of Nripatunga University near Mysore Bank Circle.

These changes came into effect as CM Siddaramaiah and Congress party supporters raised strong voice of opposition to the prosecution permission granted against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. CM also filed a petition in the High Court seeking the cancellation of the prosecution permission and the court is scheduled to hear the case on August 29 and has instructed that no action be taken until that time.

As the political drama unfolds, the situation remains tense, with all eyes on the upcoming High Court hearing and the potential implications for the state’s leadership.

BJP statewide protest:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka  announced a statewide protest on Thursday condemning the actions and statements of Congress leaders, following recent controversies surrounding CM Siddaramaiah in MUDA scam.  The BJP accused the Congress of dishonouring constitutional offices and demanded the resignation of the involved leaders.

Addressing the press conference at the state BJP office in Malleswaram, BJP State General Secretary P. Rajeev strongly criticized the Congress leaders, asserting that their actions undermining the sanctity of state government. “Every sensible citizen of the entire country is condemning the most humiliating behavior of these Congress leaders. We will fight vigorously across the state tomorrow against this,” Rajeev declared.

The BJP organized protests across all district centers in Karnataka, with a plan to operate within the framework of the law. State President B.Y. Vijayendra has been briefed on the developments and will actively participate in the protests. Senior BJP leaders, including D.V. Sadananda Gowda in Tumkur, Basavaraja Bommai in Davangere, and R. Ashok in Mandya, among others, are expected to lead the protests in their respective districts.

During the press conference, Rajeev questioned the legitimacy of the actions taken by Urban Development Minister Bhairati Suresh, particularly concerning his involvement with the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) files. “How can a police inspector investigate a sitting Chief Minister when there is such an evident misuse of power? Minister Bhairati Suresh has been accused of tampering with MUDA files using public tax money for air travel and purchasing Whitener. This is an abuse of power and a criminal breach of trust,” Rajeev asserted.

The BJP demanded immediate action against Bhairati Suresh, including his removal from the cabinet. “A case should be registered against Bhairati Suresh immediately. The Governor should dismiss him from the cabinet to maintain the integrity of the constitutional office,” Rajeev emphasized.

Furthermore, the BJP has called for the resignation of Congess CM Siddaramaiah, arguing that his leadership has been compromised by the ongoing investigations. “We demand the Chief Minister’s resignation. Ministers who have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution should not continue in their posts if they are involved in such acts,” Rajeev added.

The BJP also condemned the language used by Congress leaders against the Governor, asserting that it disrespects the constitutional office. “The use of the word ‘Nalayak’ for the Governor by Congress leaders is disgraceful. Our struggle will continue until these leaders are held accountable,” Rajeev stated.

The BJP’s protests are set to intensify the political battle in Karnataka, with the party determined to challenge the Congress leadership and demand accountability for their actions. The outcome of these protests and the legal proceedings against Congress leaders will be crucial in determining the political future of the state.Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot has been provided with a bulletproof car following the sanction to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA scam.
