The central Government, led by Prime Minister Modi, promotes Northeast India’s indigenous languages. The Union is making efforts to protect and advance the regional tongues. The Manipuri language will be preserved and promoted with funding from the Union Government of Rs 18 crore.
On August 19, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing Rs 18 crore as the first instalment for protecting and promoting the Manipuri language and script, recognising them as such. Additionally, CM Singh expressed gratitude to Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba for his ongoing efforts to advance Manipuri’s standing as a classical language.
In addition to promoting Meiteilon, the state administration has been working to preserve the tribal languages spoken there, according to Chief Minister Singh, through several initiatives, events, and programs.
Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba tweeted on the microblogging platform X, saying, “The PM Modi government has allocated Rs. 18 crores as the first instalment to promote our language, Manipuri, and script, acknowledging their usage in our Royal Chronicles for over 2000 years.” We are getting very close to having our language designated as a classical language.” The first tranche of Rs 18 crore, which is intended to promote the Manipuri language and script, has been released by the Center. Manipur’s more than 2,000-year-old royal chronicles are written in the official language and script.
