The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday, July 24 launched a crackdown against the outlawed group Communist Party of India (Maoist) raiding a number of premises in Jharkhand alongside nabbing a key accused from Bihar.

The raids were conducted in Jharkhand’s Ranchi and Lohardaga districts where the sleuths of the agency seized significant cash and other incriminating documents, devices and posters.

According to the details, the searches were undertaken at as many as two locations in the Jharkhand’s capital, Ranchi while premises of two suspects were raided in the Lohardaga districts as well, read an official statement issued by the agency on late Wednesday evening.

During the searches conducted by the agency an amount of 36,3000 along with incriminating posters, digital devices and various other documents were seized by the officials, read the release further.

The case pertains to arrest of CPI Maoist cadres and seizure of arms and ammunition which was originally registered at Peshrar police station of Lohardaga district of Jharkhand. The NIA had taken over the investigation into the matter from police in June 2022.

The agency had earlier filed supplementary chargesheets against as many as 22 accused under relevant section of Indian Penal Code (Now Bharatiya Nyay Samhita), Arms Act, Explosive Substance Act, Criminal Amendment Act (CLA) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act i.e. the UAPA in connection with the case.

The NIA investigation into the case had revealed that the accused were found to be working as Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the outlawed CPI Maoist and were indulged in assisting the members of the terrorist organisations with logistic support alongside channelizing the levy/money extorted by the cadres of the banned terror entity.

Senior CPI Maoist’s cadre from Bihar nabbed

In another related development, the NIA had also arrested a senior Maoist cadre in connection with a case related to ‘Bihar Arms and Explosive Material Seizure Case’. The nabbed accused has been identified as Rajesh Kumar Sinha alias Uday Ji, a special Area Committee Member of the CPI Maoist.

The case linked to seizure of several incriminating articles, arms and ammunition, improvised hand grenades, documents, materials and equipment used in manufacturing of arms and explosives from an accused identified as Parshuram Singh alias Nandlal.

The said accused Parshuram Singh had visited a CPI Maoist camp based at Budhapahad of Jharkhand where he met with Mithilesh Mehta alias Mithilesh Verma, a Central Committee (CC) member of the outlawed outfit and supplied improvised hand grenades to him.

According to NIA, the arrested accused Rajesh Sinha alias Uday Ji was instrumental in providing financial and logistic support to Parshuram Singh who was manufacturing the improvised hand grenades at his garage in Danapur, near Bihar’s capital Patna.

The hand grenades manufactured at Singh’s garage were then supplied to Maoists at Budhapahad, an erstwhile bastion of the terror group in Jharkhand. The NIA investigations into the matter has further revealed that a huge conspiracy was hatched to supply arms, ammunition and other explosive materials to the outlawed CPI Maoist.

NIA’s press release

Notably, the agency had already filed a chargesheet against as many as five accused namely Parshuram Singh, Sanjay Singh, Mohammad Badruddin, Prem Raj alias Gautam and Rakesh Kumar in connection with the case in December 2021.

While one of the key accused Mithilesh Mahto was remanded to NIA’s custody in June 2022 following which the agency filed a separate chargesheet against him in November 2022 subsequently.

It is worth mentioning here, that the premier investigative agency has launched a crusade against the banned terror outfit’s network spanning across several states of the country and the agency have carried out raids at hundreds of premises across states leading to arrest of several cadres/sympathisers/OGWs along seizure of arms, ammunition, digital devices, cash and incriminating documents pertaining to the terror group.
