The National Investigation Agency (NIA) reports that over 100 individuals accused in NIA cases have been jailed over the past 18 months, reflecting an uptick in terror activities. The agency highlighted a significant increase in the number of terror operatives.
Last year, 79 accused were convicted and received sentences, with an additional 26 convictions so far this year. The NIA has also reported a concerning rise in youth recruitment by the Islamic State (IS) for terrorist activities. Recent reports indicate a rapid increase in the number of terror cases and convictions. In the past month alone, more than 100 accused have been convicted across various cases.
In 2023, 79 individuals were sentenced in connection with 27 cases involving terrorism. By the first half of 2024, 26 convicts across 6 cases have already received punishments. Hearings continue for several cases, predominantly linked to activities related to the Islamic State (IS), counterfeit currency, and Maoist terrorism.
