Congress leader Lavanya Ballal Jain has been called out for spreading fake news after she claimed that a video showing a woman being swallowed by a large hole following a road collapse was from Ayodhya. This misleading assertion has sparked controversy and raised questions about the integrity of information disseminated by political figures.
Lavanya Ballal Jain shared a video purportedly depicting the deteriorating state of the much-publicised Rampath in Ayodhya. She alleged that the road collapse shown in the video highlighted the poor infrastructure in the area. This project had received extensive media coverage as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives. Jain criticised the road contractor from Gujarat and accused the BJP of using Bhagwan Ram to deceive and scam citizens.
However, as per fact-checkers debunked Jain’s claims, revealing that the video was not from Ayodhya. The footage in question was an old Brazil video posted initially by Andrea Miranda on June 3, 2022. The video shows a woman walking calmly along a sidewalk when the ground suddenly gives way, creating a crater that ‘swallows’ her. This incident occurred in Brazil, not Ayodhya, as Jain falsely claimed.
Further Instances of Misleading Information
Similarly, Congress leader Arunesh Yadav also propagated fake news by sharing a video allegedly showing a train running on a broken track. Yadav labelled this a glaring example of railway negligence, suggesting it was an invitation to accidents. Yet, this claim, too, was debunked, with fact-checkers identifying the video as an old one from Bangladesh. The Balla Local Train, featured in the video, was traced back to a Facebook page, indicating its origins in Bangladesh rather than India.
Pattern of Fake News
This is not the first time Lavanya Ballal Jain has been accused of spreading false information. Her recent actions have only added to her reputation as a habitual disseminator of fake news. Such behaviour not only misleads the public but also undermines the credibility of political discourse.
