In a disturbing incident in the village of Akera, Haryana’s Nuh district, a family faced violent retaliation for their support of the BJP in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Local strongmen assaulted the family members, leaving them injured. Despite filing a police complaint, no action has been taken three days after the incident, and the family claims they are being pressured to settle the matter privately.
Ramkishan, the head of the victimised family, reported that he runs a cosmetics and CSC shop in front of his house. On the day of the incident, his son Manoj was working at the shop when three villagers—Mausam, Sahid, and Arfat—arrived. They engaged Manoj in a discussion about the Lok Sabha elections. When Manoj revealed he had voted for the BJP, the men became furious, accusing him of causing the Congress candidate’s defeat. They began using casteist slurs and physically assaulting him.
Hearing the commotion, other family members rushed to help Manoj but were attacked. Tragically, the attackers did not even spare Ramkishan’s eight-month pregnant and differently-abled daughter-in-law, who was brutally beaten. Neighbours intervened to rescue the family, and the injured woman is now receiving treatment at Nalhar Medical College.
The family filed a complaint with the local police, but no action has been taken after three days. The family alleges that the police are pressuring them to resolve the matter without pursuing legal action. The lack of police response has left the family living in fear.
Investigating officer Sanjeev acknowledged receiving the complaint and mentioned that both parties had been called for questioning. “An investigation is ongoing, and action will be taken based on the findings,” he stated.
