The arrest of a Hindu activist for allegedly taking a procession of Ram Navami in Badkagaon of Hazaribagh has stirred a political row in the state. Aman Kumar alias Aman Baba was arrested by the Jharkhand police from Bihar’s capital, Patna on Wednesday night in connection with an FIR filed by the police in April.

Kumar was produced before the court on Thursday from where he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days. According to the reports, Kumar was arrested for his involvement in taking out a procession from prohibited route in Badkagoan of Jharkhnad on occasion of Ram Navmi.

Following his arrest, the mother of Kumar, Poonam Devi in a press conference stated that Aman is an activist of Sanatan Dharma and his popularity worried the government and political representative.

“There was a dispute over the procession route in Barkagaon for 40 years and the administration had banned the Ram Navami procession. However, he took up the matter and build a chariot which he pulled with his hand from Hazaribagh to Ranchi,” said Aman’s mother.

“The government felt threatened by Aman as he was relentlessly working for Hindutva. He had campaigned for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Hazaribagh, Chatra, Dumka, Godda, Ranchi and other place during the general elections which scared the state administration,” she added while questioning that does chanting Jai Sri Ram in India falls under the category of crime?

Meanwhile the arrest of the Hindu activist has triggered reactions from the opposition leaders who while slamming the state government have demanded immediate release of Kumar.

Taking to X, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and president of the BJP state unit, Babu Lal Marandi said that “by arresting the organisers of Ramnavami procession in Hazaribagh, the anti Sanatan government of Congress-JMM-RJD has deeply hurt the sentiments of the majority community”.

The government, which has been involved in the politics of appeasement since its formation, is continuously working to hurt the beliefs of the Hindu religion, release the Rambhakts immediately, otherwise the Sanatan society will be forced to launch an agitation, added Marandi while tagging Chief Minister, Chmapai Soren.

Another senior leader of the party and Rajya Sabha MP, Deepak Prakash in a video message said that the coalition government of the state has crossed all limits of appeasement policy, a conspiracy has been going on to implicate Hindu activists and BJP workers in a prominent district like Hazaribagh. I strongly condemn this and would also like to give a stern warning to the administration, ‘wake up or the Sanatan society will be forced to hit the streets’.

It is to be noted that the district administration through an order issued in 1985 had blocked entry of procession via Badkagaon-Mahudi path, an area with a significant population of Muslim community and it was after a long gap that the Hindu activist had made an attempt to take out the procession from the prohibited area in April this year.

However, the said attempt was halted by the administration which came up with barricades to halt the procession leading to stone pelting, vandalism of a few vehicles and sporadic arson by the enraged mob. Later on the police took control of the situation by using minor force along deploying adequate number of personnel to prevent any untoward incident.
