An official said that during conservation work at Hottal village in Nanded district, the base of a Bhagwan Shiva temple was uncovered, making a significant archaeological discovery. The ASI made the discovery while clearing debris near a temple that was under restoration.
The village of Hottal, famous for its temples dating back to the Chalukyan era, has provided three stone inscriptions. These inscriptions mention the contributions of donors who assisted in building these temples around 1070 AD, the official mentioned. Once the capital of the Kalyani Chalukyas, this area is famous for its temple complex adorned with intricate sculptures.
Amol Gote, in charge of the Nanded division of the state Archaeology Department, informed the media that they dug four trenches to understand the structure. They uncovered the base of a Lord Shiva temple with a Shivling. Additionally, they discovered many bricks, suggesting that bricks were used in constructing the temple.
