Propaganda vs. Reality: Debunking Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against the Modi Government

Over the past years, Indian politics has witnessed Rahul Gandhi consistently targeting the Modi Government with various allegations. His latest accusation of a "Stock Market Scam" is no exception. It's essential to examine the evidence closely to understand the truth behind these accusations in the context of the Modi Government's governance

In recent times, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Indian National Congress, has been at the forefront of levelling allegations against the Modi Government, hoping to dent its credibility. However, his latest endeavour, the “Stock Market Scam” accusation, seems to be another attempt to fabricate a narrative to undermine the ruling party’s image.

Rafale Allegations: The Rafale deal controversy involves India’s purchase of 36 fighter aircraft from France’s Dassault Aviation for Rs 58,891 crore. Initially part of a larger contract for 126 aircraft, the deal sparked allegations of irregularities. However, in December 2018, the Indian Supreme Court upheld the deal, finding no corruption. Rahul Gandhi’s repeated criticisms of the Rafale deal have been refuted by investigations and court rulings, affirming its integrity. Yet, he persists in raising the issue, disregarding established facts.

Pegasus Spyware Controversy: The Pegasus spyware controversy revolves around allegations that the Israeli NSO Group’s spyware was used to target and surveil individuals, including journalists, activists, and political figures. While concerns about privacy and surveillance are valid, the blanket accusations of government involvement in the Pegasus spyware scandal lack concrete evidence. However, Rahul Gandhi’s attempts to implicate the Modi government have been met with scepticism due to the absence of substantiated proof.

“Chowkidar Chor Hai” Jibe: The infamous slogan coined by Rahul Gandhi during the 2019 election campaign failed to resonate with the electorate, primarily because it lacked factual backing. Accusing the Prime Minister of corruption without credible evidence only weakened the opposition’s position.

Central Vista Project: Criticism of the Central Vista redevelopment project is not unfounded, but Rahul Gandhi’s portrayal of it as a frivolous expenditure ignores its long-term benefits and the need for modernised infrastructure.

EVM Manipulation Allegations: Baseless allegations of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tampering have been repeatedly debunked by electoral authorities and independent audits. Rahul Gandhi’s insistence on this narrative undermines the credibility of India’s democratic processes.

PM Cares Fund: While questions regarding transparency in the management of the PM Cares Fund are valid, Rahul Gandhi’s attempts to label it as a scam lack substantive evidence. Without concrete proof of wrongdoing, such accusations only politicise humanitarian efforts.

Article 370 Repeal: The decision to revoke Article 370 was a constitutional prerogative exercised by the government, aimed at integrating Jammu and Kashmir more closely with the rest of India. Rahul Gandhi’s opposition to this move reflects political differences rather than genuine concern for the region’s welfare.

Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against the Modi Government lack evidence and fail to withstand scrutiny. Amidst challenges, Modi’s leadership continues to steer the country towards progress, resonating positively with the aspirations of millions of Indians.
