Shambhavi Choudhary, a 25-year-old from LJP (RV), has made history as the youngest woman member in the Lok Sabha. She won the Samastipur constituency by a significant margin, defeating her nearest rival, Sunny Hazari of Congress, by 1,87,251 votes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier lauded Shambhavi as the youngest NDA candidate during a campaign rally.
Three other leaders, Sanjana Jatav from Bharatpur, Pushpendra Saroj from Kaushambi, and Priya Saroj from Machhlishahr in Uttar Pradesh, are also 25 years old and among the youngest MPs expected to join the 18th Lok Sabha.
Shambhavi Choudhary, born in 1999, is part of a political family with a rich history spanning three generations. Her father, Ashok Choudhary, is a prominent figure in the ruling Janta Dal (United). He was previously associated with the Congress party but switched to the JD(U) in 2018.
Shambhavi Choudhary earned her Master of Arts degree in Sociology from the Delhi School of Economics in 2022. Prior to that, she completed her undergraduate studies at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi. Currently, she serves as the director of Gyan Niketan School in the state capital and is pursuing her PhD from Magadh University. She is married to Saayan Kunal, son of Acharya Kishore Kunal, a former IPS officer and secretary of Mahavir Mandir Trust.
The JD(U) Minister, Maheshwar Hazari, is the father of Shambhavi’s opponent, Sunny Hazari. However, Maheshwar’s political disagreements prevented him from supporting his son. Sunny Hazari has been the pramukh of the Khanpur block in Samastipur since 2021. He graduated from NIT Patna with a degree in engineering.
