Armed cadres of the banned Maoist outfit launched an attack on the security forces recently established camp in Irakbhatti camp under Kohakmeta police station limits of Narayanpur district on Wednesday, June 5.

According to the details, the extremist during the attack also fired country-made Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL) on the camp triggering a sharp reaction from the vigilant security forces who retaliated heavily forcing the outlaws to withdraw.

Confirming the development, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police (Sp), Prabhat Kumar informed that “Naxalite has fired four BGL rockets on the Irakbhatti security camp in Narayanpur on Wednesday to which the security forces replied heavily, sensing the upper hand of the forces, the Naxals flee the spot under the cover of dense forests, no harm has been made either to camp or the personnel in the attack.”

Notably, the attack on the security camp has taken place at a time when the forces are carrying out persistent counter-insurgency operations in the Maoist affected belt of Narayanpur, Sukma, Dantewada and Bijapur districts leading to arrest of scores of Maoist operatives from separate places.

In similar operations launched in separate areas of Bijapur, security forces have arrested as many as 9 Maoist operatives from Madded and Farsegarh police station limits.

One of the arrested cadre identified as Lachhu Punem is an Area Committee Member of the Madded AC of the outlawed CPI Maoist. Punem was carrying a bounty of Rs5 Lakhs on his head.

Those arrested were reported to be involved in carrying out illegal activities on behest of the Maoist outfit. It’s been further reported that five of the Maoist nabbed by the police were also carrying a reward of Rs10000 each announced by the state government.

Reacting to the development, Deputy Chief Minister (CM) of the state, Vijay Sharma said that “the Chhattisgarh government is making multi-dimensional efforts towards Naxal eradication. Repeated appeals are being made to the misguided people to return to the mainstream of society.”

It must be noted that apart from directing the forces to carry out frequent operations and further their movement in the Maoist hotbed, the incumbent state government has also started outreach programs aimed at interacting with the civil society, media personnel and other sections of the society towards finding a permanent solution to the Maoist issue in the state.

Recently, the Dy CM had also visited the Bastar division of the state and participated in discussions on current status of Maoist insurgency, its ramifications on the remote areas and government’s intent to develop areas affected by the insurgency such as Bastar.

Interacting with the gathering Dy CM, Sharma asserted that “We need ballets not bullets, we don’t need Gantantra (Maoism) but Jantantra (Democracy) only that will lead to development.” He further emphasized that district level committees should be formed with participation of separate sections of society to bridge up the communication gap between the Maoist and the government.

The Union Home Minister has a resolve to eradicate the Maoist insurgency in the next three years and the incumbent state government under CM Vishnu Deo Sai is heading in that direction, we will eradicate Maoism from Bastar for sure, added Dy CM, Sharma.
