Nagpur: Pallavai’s death amid relationship with Irfan sparks murder accusations by family, police suspects suicide

In Nagpur, a Hindu woman named Pallavi tragically lost her life, allegedly due to her contact with a Muslim man, Irfan. The police have charged Irfan with abetment to suicide, but Pallavi's family insists that it was a case of murder and holds Irfan responsible for pushing her in front of a moving train

Once again, a Hindu woman has tragically met a similar fate after allegedly being involved in an interfaith relationship. Pallavi Mahajan, a twenty-four-year-old, died tragically after being struck by a train in Nagpur, Maharashtra. While the police have labelled it as an attempted suicide, the victim’s father, speaking to Organiser, insists it was murder. He accuses Irfan, who had been in contact with Pallavi, and his accomplices of being responsible for her death.

The victim’s father, Nandkishore Mahajan, filed a First Information Report (FIR number: 520/2024) at Nagpur Railway Police Station on May 7.

According to the FIR, Nandkishore Uttamrao Mahajan, aged 58, residing at Gupta Layout Behind Dehankar Showroom, Katol, Nagpur, stated that he, along with his wife Jyoti Mahajan and their daughter Pallavi, had been living in Katol for the past twenty-four years.

Pallavi had been undergoing stress and had attempted suicide by taking sleeping pills on May 3, 2024. She was initially treated at Rural Hospital, Katol, and later transferred to Chirayu Hospital, Dhantoli, Nagpur.

Upon discharge on May 4, Pallavi seemed to have recovered, and she confided in her father about her relationship with Irfan, their neighbour of two and a half years. Pallavi expressed her desire to marry Irfan, but he had allegedly threatened her and refused marriage.

On the evening of May 4, Pallavi left home around 6:30 PM on a scooty and did not return. Despite attempts to contact her, she remained unreachable, leading her parents to worry and search for her.

The family searched for Pallavi and it was only around 12 at night they learned about her. Pallavi mother came home and fell on the floor, while crying she said, “Apli Pallavi geli” (our Pallavi has gone) and then the family leaned about the death.

The police intervened and arrested Irfan on May 5, 2024, based on the FIR filed by Nandkishore Mahajan.

Following the post-mortem, Pallavi was cremated according to Hindu rituals. Nandkishore Mahajan holds Irfan Ali accountable for driving his daughter to suicide and has filed a legal complaint against him under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC.

This correspondent talked to Nandkishore on May 21, where he stated that the family was unaware of Pallavi’s association with Irfan. He clarified that while Pallavi had indeed taken sleeping pills due to Irfan’s refusal to marry her after nearly two years of courtship, she had not committed suicide.

Nandkishore implicated Irfan, along with others named Avinash and Suraj Charde, alleging that they had manipulated his daughter. He asserted that these individuals, with the malicious intent of defaming a Hindu woman, exploited Pallavi and ultimately murdered her.

The gruesome discovery of Pallavi’s dismembered body on the railway tracks led Nandkishore to point the finger solely at Irfan Ali for this heinous act.

Organiser attempted to contact the investigating officer, ASI Nilam Chirkutrao Dongre, but all calls went unanswered.

This correspondent reported a case from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, where a minor Hindu girl was allegedly pushed in front of a running train by Mohammad Fariyad, resulting in her death. The victim’s body was found in two pieces, with her family alleging that she was taken to a mosque, converted, and raped before being murdered. The Bareilly police arrested the accused, and investigations were underway.

According to the complaint letter obtained by Organiser, the mother of the minor victim, Usha, wife of Mahesh Yadav, a native of Nai Basti Faridpur area, informed the police about the incident. She recounted how a group of Muslim men, including Mohammad Fariyad, had killed her 14-year-old daughter.

On May 8, the victim’s school called her parents to inform them that she had received low marks in a subject and needed to fill out an improvement form. As she made her way to the school, she met Fariyad, who offered to give her a ride. The minor accepted the offer.

However, instead of taking her to the school, Fariyad took the victim to the railway bridge near the Bahgul River.

Local media sources reported that upon reaching the bridge, Fariyad physically assaulted the victim and then pushed her in front of an oncoming train. Tragically, the victim died instantly.
