West Bengal: Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim brutally killed; dismembered body found in Kolkata’s New Town Area

In a shocking development, which completely radiates nothing but barbarism, a Member of Sheikh Hasina’s party named Anwarul Azim Anar who went missing since May 20 was brutally murdered and his body chopped into pieces was eventually found at Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal

The Bangladeshi MP who went missing in India on May 18, 2024 was found dead in Kolkata on May 22, 2024. Anwarul Azim Anar, a member of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party in Bangladesh arrived in the capital of West Bengal on May 12. The news of his death was confirmed by the Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.

The Kolkata Police launched a search operation after Anar was last seen in May 13, 2024 with his friends in Bidhannagar near Kolkata where he went for medical checkup. Meanwhile, khan during a press conference in Dhaka said three people believed to be involved into the killing of Bangladeshi ministers have been arrested.

So far, we have come to know that all killers involved are Bangladeshis. It was a planned murder, the home minister said, adding that the Bangladesh Police officials have been in touch and contact with India as they try to determine the motive behind the alleged murder. The Kolkata Police said that the dismembered body of the Bangladeshi leader was found in Kolkata’s Newtown Area.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police said His body was cut into pieces and some of the body parts were recovered from a flat of Sanjeeva Garden in Kolkata’s new town adding that body was recovered eight days after Anar went missing. Anar’s disappearance came to notice after he went incommunicado a day after he arrived in India. A Family friend said that Anar was due to visit Delhi which he had communicated to his family via text messages.

However, the Bangladeshi leader became unreachable stoking fears among family members Upon Anar’s daughter’s request the family friend lodged a missing persons complaint at the Baranagar police station. On the morning of May 16, he, Anwarul Azim called his assistant but could not connect. Later when his PA called him back, he did not answer according to the complaint dated May 18, 2024.

Azim was the Awami League law maker from the Jhenadiah 4 constituency. Jhenadiah is a bordering area known for its high crime rate. Azim was the local lawmaker there. The incident took place after went to India for treatment. According to what we currently know, he was killed there,” the home minister said. Further investigation and probe are still underway.
