Chhattisgarh: At least 12 killed in action after forces launch a massive operation against Maoist in Bijapur

Hundreds of security personnel were part of the massive offensive launched by the forces following credible inputs of presence of Maoist in Gangloor area in the wee hours of Friday

In a major success for the security forces in Maoist affected Chhattisgarh at least 12 Maoist have been killed in a fierce encounter in Pidiya of Bijapur district on Friday, May 10.

As per the latest input received, hundreds of personnel of paramilitary forces along with the personnel of Chhattisgarh police were part of the massive operation that was launched after receiving credible intel about the presence of the senior cadres of the outlawed CPI Maoist in the wee hours of Friday.

The operation was launched in the Gangloor police station limits of Bijapur district where the personnel belonging to District Reserve Guards, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Commando battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), Special Tasked Force and district police encircled a group of the Maoist near the Pidiya forest on Thursday morning, leading to a fierce exchange of fire that lasted for several hours.

According to the reports, at least a dozen Maoist cadres have been neutralized while many suspected to have sustained injuries in the encounter. A couple of security personnel have also sustained injuries in the gunfight.

Meanwhile reacting to the development, State’s Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that our forces have achieved a major success in the encounter that occurred near Pidiya of Gangloor area of Bijapur district. The gunfight has been stopped and bodies of 12 Maoist have been recovered.

“We are fighting the Maoist with all the might ever since we formed the government, the double engine government is committed to eradicate the Maoist from the State,” added CM Sai further.

Massive drive against Maoist

It is to be noted that off late, the security forces have intensified search operations in the core Maoist zones of Bastar division of the State. Recently the forces achieved major success in back to back operations launched in core Maoist zone of Bijapur and Abujhmaad region.

Both Bijapur and Abujhmaad region has been considered safe zones for the top cadres of the Maoist where the forces have commenced launching specific targeted operations.

Significantly, a total of 10 Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire between the security forces and the cadres of outlawed CPI Maoist near Tekmeta forest of Narayanpur district in the wee hours of April 30

The operation in Tekmeta follows another massive operation launched by the forces near Binnagunda forest area of Chotebethiya police station limits of Kanker, on April 16. The encounter that lasted for several hours had resulted in killings of a total of 29 Maoist including of a few top cadres. It is worth mentioning here that after the encounter in Pidiya on Thursday the tally of the number of Maoist neutralized in separate encounter this year has surpassed 100.
