In a significant development reported from Narayanpur of Chhattisgarh, as many as 3-4 Maoists are reported to have been killed during an exchange of fire between the security forces and the cadres of outlawed CPI Maoists on Tuesday, April 30, suggests report.
According to the details, a joint team of security forces comprising personnel from District Reserve Guards (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) was dispatched towards the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border in the late hours of April 29. The operation was launched following credible inputs of presence of top Maoist cadres.
An exchange of fire occurred between the forces and the Maoists near Tekmeta in the Abujhmaad region of Narayanpur in the wee hours of Tuesday, April 30 in which 3-4 Maoists have been reportedly killed so far. As of now the encounter is still underway into the region and further details are awaited.
The development has been confirmed by the Inspector General of Police (IG), Bastar range, Sundarraj P. It has been further reported that a number of Maoist have also sustained grave injuries during the gunfight.
It should be noted that the Abujhmaad region has been a hotbed of insurgency for long time and considered a safe hideout for the outlaws. The region is surrounded by dense forests and hostile terrain, which also provide a safe passage for the ultras towards the Gadchiroli of Mahrashtra.
Back-to-back operations
The encounter in Tekmeta has occurred a day after security forces in a separate encounter gunned down a male cadre of the Maoist outfit following an exchange of fire in the Satlong area under Kistaram police station limits of Sukma on April 28.
It is worth mentioning here that the security forces in Chhattisgarh have tightened the grip on the outlaws in the past few months, leading to neutralisation of more than 80 Maoist in the last four months alone.
Significantly, as many as 29 Maoists were killed after a fierce encounter that occurred between the security forces and the outlaws near the Binnagunda forest area of Chotebethiya police station limits of Kanker, on April 16 of this month.
